Italian tennis star Lorenzo Musetti advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open after taking down Taylor Fritz 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 in the fourth round.
In order to reach the semifinals, however, he must defeat 24-time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic.
While Musetti is looking to win his first-ever Grand Slam title in Melbourne, he’s dealing with some off-the-court issues. Two members of his support team had to leave for personal reasons. The 23-year-old’s girlfriend and No. 1 fan, Veronica Confalonieri, is also watching from home.

However, Musetti is using the setbacks as fuel. “I feel more mature on the court. I’m playing better for that, and for them,” he told reporters after defeating Fritz. “I think we are doing a great job, because the week before the start of the tournament, a lot of things happened.
“I think that maybe that helped me to be a better version of myself, also on the court… So I’m really, really proud. I want to continue to honour the team that is at home.”
Just weeks before leaving for the Australian Open, he and Veronica celebrated a life-changing milestone together. It’s also the reason Veronica is not in the stands cheering him on at Melbourne Park.
Lorenzo Musetti & His Girlfriend Veronica Recently Welcomed Their 2nd Baby Boy
Musetti first started dating Veronica, a graphic designer, in 2022. They welcomed their first child, Ludovico, in March 2024.
The couple announced that they were expecting their second child together in May. They wrote in a shared post on Instagram, “The family is growing #4🩵.”
Their second baby was born on November 29. Musetti and Veronica announced the news on Instagram and wrote, “29.11.2025 LEANDRO🐻. Love is multiplied by me. 💙.”
“I didn’t get much sleep in the offseason. But we found a way to work and to practice really well on and off the court,” Musetti told reporters of his newborn son’s arrival. “Now it’s more than 20 days that I’m alone and it’s not easy, but I feel their presence also here.”
Lorenzo Musetti Is Looking for ‘Revenge’ Against Novak Djokovic

Of the 10 times Musetti has faced Djokovic, he’s won just once (Monte Carlo Masters in 2023). Djokovic, who already has 10 Australian Open titles under his belt, enters the quarterfinals with extra rest after his fourth-round opponent dropped out due to injury.
“I think it will be a tough match, for sure. Of course, he’s feeling good,” Musetti told reporters of the 38-year-old Serbian superstar. “He never lost a set. He had the chance to rest for a few days.
“I think at this age, I think he was happy about it, of course, to try to be well-prepared and well-relaxed for this match. But of course we know each other pretty well because we played a lot. Just won once against him. Hopefully I’ll take my revenge, because last time in Athens we were really, really close. I feel like I have another chance now.”
