The Utah Mammoth are off to an incredible start to the 2025-26 NHL season. In fact, they are among the best teams in the Western Conference through the first 11 games of the season, even with their eight-game winning streak being snapped by the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Utah took time to reward one of its best players, Logan Cooley, for his efforts on the ice.
Cooley signed an eight-year contract extension with the Mammoth, the team announced. His deal carries a cap hit of $10 million per season. This deal buys out his first four seasons of free agency eligibility. Cooley received a modified no-trade clause in the final four years of the deal, according to PuckPedia.
This is a huge move for Utah, who now have three of its most important stars signed long-term. Cooley is certainly looking forward to what the Mammoth can accomplish in the coming years
“I love it here. It’s the best time I’ve had playing hockey, the fans, the facilities we have are second to none. And you know, I think just the team we have with (forward Dylan) Guenther, (forward Clayton) Keller, ‘Sergy’ (defenseman Mikhail Sergachev), the core we have here,” Cooley said, via NHL.com.
“It’s a special group, and I’m excited to add to that. And I think the way we’re playing and the team we have, we’re going to be a dangerous team to stop.”

Cooley has hit the ground running in 2025-26. He leads all Mammoth skaters with eight goals on the young season. And he’s one of four Utah skaters with 12 or more points so far this year. The former third-overall pick has emerged as a legitimate star for the NHL’s youngest franchise.
Utah has a load of young talent making an impact in the NHL. But having Cooley signed long-term is a game-changer. He is only 21 years old, and he may be well on his way toward becoming the team’s top-line center. Management is certainly pleased to have this deal done.
“Logan has made a huge commitment today by signing with the Mammoth to this organization, to his teammates, to the Mammoth fans, and also to the state of Utah,” Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong said, via NHL.com.
“The reason I’m so excited today to sign Logan to an eight-year deal is the same reason on draft day. We were so excited about getting this young man. He’s an elite centerman with speed, and they’re extremely rare and extremely hard to find.”
Logan Cooley, Utah Share Lofty Ambition
It’s far too early to discuss this team or any other as a Stanley Cup contender. But the Cup is certainly on the mind of this team. It’s the goal of every team in the NHL. Cooley is no different in wanting to bring hockey’s ultimate prize to Salt Lake City.
“That’s why you play this game, and that’s why it’s fun working every day at the rink, trying to get better, trying to work on your game, individually, as a team. And I think the best in the League, when it’s all said and done, it’s kind of judged by winning,” the Mammoth star said, via NHL.com.
The Mammoth are one of the best stories in the league right now. This deal keeps the vibes positive, and if they keep winning, things will only get better in Salt Lake City. Cooley and his Utah teammates are in action again on November 2.
