Harry Maguire’s scored a dramatic extra-winner as Manchester United secured a thrilling comeback win over Lyon to reach the Europa League semi-finals.
Tied at 2-2 after the first leg, United looked in cruise control after goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot put them two goals to the good at half-time.
But the visitors struck twice within the space of seven second-half minutes to level the tie and send the game to extra-time.
And despite going down to ten men after Corentin Tolisso’s sending off, Lyon went ahead when Rayan Cherki smashed an effort past Andre Onana on the brink of half-time in extra-time.
United then looked dead and buried shortly after the interval when Alexandre Lacazette converted from the spot to put Lyon 6-4 ahead on aggregate.

Instead, Ruben Amorim’s side bounced back immediately, Bruno Fernandes converting from the spot with six minutes remaining.
And Kobbie Mainoo then looked like he had sent the game to penalties when the substitute found space inside the area to curl a wonderful effort into the far corner in the 120th minute.
But there was more drama in store just seconds later as Harry Maguire rose highest at the back post to head Casemiro’s cross into the far corner and complete a remarkable turnaround in front of a frenzied home crowd.
The scarcely believable comeback keeps United’s hopes of silverware and Champions League qualification alive and they will now face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals.
