Man Utd ‘agree personal terms’ with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite as Sir Jim Ratcliffe closes in on first signing

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed terms with Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, according to reports.

The Toffees defender, 21, enjoyed a sensational season at Goodison Park which saw him earn a call-up to Gareth Southgate‘s provisional squad for Euro 2024.

But after not making the final squad for the tournament, he has now reportedly struck a deal with Man Utd, although the Red Devils are yet to agree a transfer fee with Everton.

According to The Times, the Merseyside club are holding out for £70million.

And SunSport understands if an Everton takeover is completed then they will not allow the 6ft4in defender to leave.

But Branthwaite‘s arrival at Old Trafford would make him the club’s first signing since co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchased his stake.

News of Man Utd closing in on the defender also comes just 24 hours after it was revealed manager Erik ten Hag will be staying.

The personal terms agreed with Branthwaite would reportedly see him earn between £150,000 and £160,000 a week.

Ten Hag endured a host of injuries to his centre-backs during the 2023/24 season.

Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Willy Kambwala and Luke Shaw all suffered issues during the campaign.

Branthwaite played 35 of Everton’s 38 Premier League games this season

The selection headache led to Man Utd playing Casemiro at centre-half – where he was heavily criticised.

Varane has already left the club, while Evans’ future remains uncertain.

Everton remain in financial turmoil and could be forced to sell more players this summer in order to raise funds.

They were docked eight points this season but still comfortably avoided relegation under Sean Dyche.
