Man Utd flop Wout Weghorst tipped for huge European transfer after Netherlands heroics in Euro 2024 opener

WOUT WEGHORST could be set for a sensational transfer to Ajax, according to reports.

The Burnley striker, 31, was the gamechanger for his country yet again on Sunday as he scored Holland’s winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Poland.

Weghorst made an instant impact after coming off the bench against Poland

Super-sub Weghorst netted within two minutes of coming off the bench at the Euros in Hamburg.

It was the latest heroic act to go along with his brace for the Dutch at the 2022 World Cup against Argentina.

And now he could be set for a permanent departure from Burnley this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Ajax are monitoring his situation as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at Turf Moor.

Weghorst, who joined Burnley from Wolfsburg in January 2022, is not happy with playing in the Championship next season following The Clarets’ Premier League relegation.

He only scored two goals in 20 games for Burnley, before he joined Besiktas on loan ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Manchester United then bought him out of that deal and brought him to Old Trafford on loan in January 2023 where he scored just twice in 31 matches.

He returned to Burnley but was farmed out again – this time to Hoffenheim – where he bagged seven goals last season.

Ajax are lining up a major re-shuffle in attack with Steven Bergwijn, Chuba Akpom and Brian Brobbey all linked with moves away as the club attempt to shrink their wage bill.

It comes after a nightmare season for the Eredivisie giants in which they finished fifth, 35 points adrift of champions PSV.

Meanwhile, Burnley are still yet to appoint a new manager after Vincent Kompany left to take the top job at Bayern Munich.
