Joshua Zirkzee took a swipe at the Manchester United fans who left Old Trafford early after the miraculous Europa League victory over Lyon.

Trailing by two goals, United were minutes away from an embarrassing European exit at the hands of Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Ruben Amorim’s side sealed a 2-2 draw in the away leg and looked on course for a relatively comfortable second leg after going 2-0 up just before half-time.

Manuel Ugarte broke the deadlock at Old Trafford following a well-worked goal and Diogo Dalot doubled United’s advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Lyon’s first goal through Corentin Tolisso came out of nowhere and the visitors were level six minutes later, Nicolas Tagliafico’s equaliser sending the quarter-final tie to extra-time.

Despite Lyon’s fightback, the momentum should have been with United after Tolisso was sent off shortly before the full-time whistle.

But it was the French side who were on top in extra-time, scoring two goalsin five minutes to seemingly book their place in the semi-finals and pile the pressure on Amorim.

Bruno Fernandes’ penalty soon after gave United a glimmer of hope and Kobbie Mainoo truly made Lyon panic when he scored United’s fourth of the night, the tie now level once again and heading to penalties.

Just a minute later Harry Maguire powered a header home to spark incredible scenes inside Old Trafford and send Manchester United into the semis.

Thousands of United fans were heading for the exit door when Lyon took control in extra-time, with many able to return to their seats in time for the comeback.

But Zirkzee took a swipe at the supporters who headed out prematurely with a post on Instagram.

‘To all the fans who left when we were down,’ he wrote on a video of the joyous scenes at full-time. ‘Have a listen to this.’

Zirkzee was in the stands for Manchester United’s incredible victory after a hamstring injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Speaking after United somehow booked their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League, matchwinner Maguire said: ‘Obviously it’s an incredible game, we made really hard work of it.

‘We had full control in the second half, had chances to score a third, then they scored out of no where. It put us on the back foot.

‘To go down 4-2 in extra-time to 10 men is not good enough, we opened ourselves too much. But we dug in and showed great spirit, that’s what this stadium does.’

Old Trafford boss Amorim added: ‘The sounds of the stadium was the best ever.

‘Some people collect shirts, scarves, but I want to keep that sound, it’s the best sound in the world.

‘I feel for the people who had to leave at 4-2 because of the traffic, they will be gutted.

‘We know we are underperforming and deserve all the critics, but we have time to make something special of this season.’
