Paul Parker has urged his former club Manchester United to replace head coach Ruben Amorim with legendary football manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Amorim is under huge pressure at Old Trafford after a disastrous start to the 2025-26 campaign, with United 14th in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils also crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Grimsby Town and it’s reported that United have a three-man shortlist to succeed Amorim.

United are said to be keen on former England boss Gareth Southgate as well as Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

But ex-United defender Parker wants to see Ancelotti – an iconic manager who has won five Champions League titles – take over from Amorim.

Ancelotti is currently in charge of the Brazil national team after the Italian’s second stint at La Liga side Real Madrid from 2021 to 2025 ended in May.

‘I’ve seen Ancelotti has been mentioned [with the Man Utd job],’ Parker told Metro via best US Open betting sites.

‘That could be his agent pushing because he’s not enjoying life in Rio. Maybe he’s not ready to be an international manager yet and has still got that buzz to be around football every day.

‘If Ancelotti was available, you’d try to get Ancelotti. From what he’s achieved already, five Champions Leagues, he’s a don of football.

‘Everyone would love him. The club would be bigger than any other club in the world off the back of that. They’d get more attention than any other club.’

Ancelotti has previously been in charge of two English clubs – Chelsea and Everton – between 2009 and 2011 and from 2019 to 2021 respectively.

The 66-year-old has also managed the likes of AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Paris-Saint Germain, Juventus and Napoli in the past.

If United cannot bring in Ancelotti, Parker would like to see United go for Glasner, who has led Palace to FA Cup and Community Shield glory.

‘I first saw him when he was managing Eintracht Frankfurt,’ Parker added. ‘It’s incredible what he’s done at Palace.

‘Even though Eberechi Eze has gone, their [18-game unbeaten] run is still going, so they have improved immensely and taking steps forward.

‘If he’s really ambitious, he would leave Palace. To get United back from where they are now would be a big step [for him].’

Quizzed about Southgate and Iraola, Parker said: ‘[Southgate] is a good talker and he says the right things. We have to say with England, what he achieved was incredible. The majority of fans wouldn’t want him – but how many fans didn’t want Sir Alex Ferguson?

‘When you look at Bournemouth, it’s brilliant what [Iraola] has done. He lost three of his back four but when you look at them this season, it’s not a problem.’
