Aston Villa head to Manchester United on the final day of the Premier League season still fighting for Champions League qualification.

United’s campaign effectively ended in disaster on Wednesday night, beaten by Tottenham in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

A morbid atmosphere at Old Trafford awaits on Sunday with nothing for the hosts to play for with focus already on trying to repair the damage this summer.

Amorim could use the final game of the season to reward some of the club’s young stars with more starting roles with Tyler Fredricson and Harry Amass providing good accounts of themselves this season. Chido Obi will also hope for a chance to score his first senior goal up front.

Focus will be on Alejandro Garnacho following his wild outburst after the defeat to Tottenham.

The Argentina international started on the bench that evening with Mason Mount given the nod ahead of him.

Garnacho questioned the decision later that evening with his brother accusing Amorim of ‘throwing him under the bus’ in another unwanted subplot to a dreadful campaign.

Garnacho threw his future at United into doubt with those comments and while his participation in a meaningless game is unlikely to be a deciding factor, it will be interesting to see what action Amorim takes.

Joshua Zirkzee meanwhile will hope to end the season with a starting role after coming off the bench in Bilbao having recovered from a hamstring injury.

Tom Heaton, Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans are expected to leave United this summer with Sunday a chance to say farewell to Old Trafford.

How Man Utd could line up this weekend…

The race for Champions League qualification is the biggest story of the final weekend. With Arsenal already there, just three points separate Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Villa ahead of kick-off.

To return to Europe’s top table next season, Unai Emery’s side need a win at Old Trafford and for Newcastle, City or Chelsea to fail to win.
