Forson’s displays for the Under-21s saw Erik ten Hag reward him with four first-team appearances last season.

United were eager to retain Forson’s services, offering him a bumper new deal.

But according to reports, the teenager has decided to move on to pastures new.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the England Under-20 international has decided to move to Italy to play for AC Monzo.

He wrote on X: “Omari Forson to Monza, here we go!

“As revealed last week, 2004-born talent leaves Manchester United as a free agent — decision was already made.

“Forson has agreed on terms to join Monza on free transfer from #MUFC, he will now play in Serie A.

“Contract until June 2028.”

News of Forson’s reported move to Serie A raised plenty of Red Devils fans’ eyebrows, with one saying: ” I hope he becomes a star in Italy.

“It’d be cool to see more English players succeeding overseas.”

Another said: “Bummer, I think we miss out on compensation because he left England.”

And another said: “I always think it’s good to play your football overseas.”

One remarked: “His assist against Wolves for [Kobbie] Mainoo won’t be forgotten.”

Another chimed in: “Interesting move! Shows some more ambition and bravery than finding a mid-table Championship club.

“Hope he smashes it.”

Ten Hag seemingly had plans in place to further integrate Forson into the first team next season.

When asked why he called up the youngster, the Dutchman said in February: “Because he deserves the position.

“Lately, he’s performing very well, over the last half year he’s worked very hard, showed his progression.

“And when he came on against Wolves and Newport he had some impact, for instance with the goal for Kobbie Mainoo, he had the link up and good run behind.

“That’s what we expect from him. He showed reliability and now he gets his chance, so he has to take his chance.”
