Manchester United could keep Casemiro beyond this season and his current contract, but only if he agrees to a reduced salary.
The Brazil international is in the final year of his deal with the Red Devils and will leave the club next summer, as things stand.
However, he has been featuring regularly under Ruben Amorim, making six Premier League appearances this season.
The 33-year-old was linked with a move away from the club over the summer transfer window, but things have turned around and he could even still be there next season.
ESPN report that Manchester United are considering offering the midfielder a new contract, but it would most likely be on a reduced salary.

The former Real Madrid star is one of the highest earners at the club and he would not warrant his huge wages after his 34th birthday in February.
The Daily Mail reports that Casemiro earns around £350,000-a-week at Manchester United.

Casemiro went through a spell last season of not starting games regularly, but made it clear he was enjoying life in Manchester and didn’t intend to leave before the end of his contract.
‘Of course, I’d like to play more,’ he told Diario AS in February. ‘I don’t know any player who doesn’t want to play. And I want to help the club at this time. I face things with respect for my teammates and the staff, and above all, respect for United.
‘I have a year and a half left on my contract, and I’d like to see it out here in Manchester. I’m comfortable here, and my family is too. They’ve adapted, we speak English. I’m very grateful to the fans and the club. I’m happy at the club. Happy on the bench? Of course not, that’s something else.’
Manchester United have an option to extend Casemiro’s current contract by another year, but that would keep him on his current wages.

Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia are also into the final years of their contracts at the club.
There is an option for the club to extend Malacia’s contract by another 12 months, while Maguire had the same option triggered earlier this year so would need to sign a new deal to stay beyond the summer.
Malacia is yet to play this season while Maguire has made seven appearances in all competitions.
Discussing his future last summer, Maguire said: ‘Over the next few months they’ll sit down and we’ll have a conversation about where we want to go and if they want to extend.
‘I have something in my mind about what I want to do and what I want to be. It’s an amazing club to play for and you’d be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could.’
