Manchester United have begun talks over a move for Kevin Filling, a 16-year-old striker who has already scored for AIK in the Swedish top flight.

The teenage forward has been capped up to Under-17 level by Sweden and has already been gaining experience in senior football.

Filling had never even been on the bench before in the Swedish top flight when he was handed his debut against IFK Goteborg in June.

He scored in a 3-0 win for AIK and said afterwards: ‘It was a little surreal to come out into the stadium.

‘Of course it was a little nervous, but it’s just a match. I’ve prepared my whole life for this. 40,000, 5,000, 100 people, it doesn’t matter, I always do my best.’

He has now made seven appearances in the Allsvenskan, scoring two goals and has attracted interest from England.

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Manchester United are in ‘concrete negotiations’ for the teenager.

He adds that AIK would only be looking for a fee of around €3m (£2.64m) and the deal could be done in the January transfer window.

Some clubs in Germany’s top flight are also believed to be tracking the young Swede.

There have been contrasting reports on United’s interest from German publication Absolut Fussball, which state that there were talks over the summer but Filling has fallen off the radar at Old Trafford.

Manchester United spent big on the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko over the summer transfer window, but have been looking to invest in young prospects as well.

18-year-old Diego Leon also arrived from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno over the summer and earned great reviews in pre-season, although is yet to appear for the first team.

Amorim said of the young full-back: ‘He’s learning things, he’s powerful, he’s going to be a very good player.’

Last year the Red Devils signed Malian midfielder Sekou Kone after the teenager impressed at the 2023 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and then the Under-17 World Cup in the same year.

Now 19, Kone is also yet to make a senior appearance for Manchester United.

Earlier this month it was also reported that 17-year-old Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco has signed a deal to move to Old Trafford next summer.

The move is reportedly worth $1m (£740,800), with the Red Devils hoping they have secured a bargain and a star of the future in the defensive midfielder.

Manchester United have also looked closer to home in signing up young stars in recent years, bringing in Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal, both of whom have featured in the top flight under Amorim.

Obi made seven Premier League appearances last season, but is yet to feature this campaign.

Red Devils Under-21 manager Travis Binnion told the Manchester Evening News of the promising young forward’s progress: ‘The key thing there is he’s still very young, he’s still learning his game.

‘Because he’s had exposure with the first-team, I think people expect performance levels that are really consistent and really high. You’ve got first-team players across the country who don’t do that.

‘I’m really pleased with him and we haven’t even scraped the top of the iceberg with him. He’s got loads to come.

‘That will come from how he sees the game, keeps working hard and recognises he has stuff to develop because that’s always a challenge when you have that first-team exposure and then you go away and have to start working on things.’
