Domi’s heartfelt tribute highlights the respect players have for the legendary announcer. His relationship with Bowen predates his NHL career. Domi’s father, Tie was a beloved Maple Leaf and known for being one of the team’s toughest enforcers.

“My whole life, [Bowen’s] certainly been a part of it. Don’t remember watching a Leaf game without tuning in and listening to his voice,” Domi said. “Joe Bowen’s the man. He’s the greatest of all time at what he does and his voice will be tied to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization for a lifetime. So, pretty spectacular to be a part of it.”
Domi emphasized that the Leafs aim to secure a win to conclude Bowen’s celebration on a high note.
“It’s a big night for Joe and I think we’re all going to be playing for him,” Domi said. “Our main focus is getting the win for him tonight, him and his family, and obviously build that momentum into the road trip.”
Maple Leafs Present Special Gifts to Joe Bowen Before Holy Mackinaw Night
The Maple Leafs began their Holy Mackinaw Night festivities early, presenting Joe Bowen with special gifts before tonight’s game.
Leafs general manager Brad Treliving joined the coaching staff and team in the dressing room to express gratitude to Bowen. He presented a framed Leafs jersey with Bowen’s name and #44, along with the game sheet from his first game. That number is in reference to total seasons he has served as the voice of the team.
Treliving also gave Bowen a golden microphone memento and a special gift related to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
“It’s a big night, guys. Joe’s synonymous with the franchise. I mean, he’s been the soundtrack of this team for longer than anybody in this room as been alive,” Treliving said. “Joe’s first game was against Chicago. Here’s the game sheet from his first ever game that he called. Guy who’s on the mic all the time, he’s probably got to have a golden mic.”
Bowen Expresses Gratitude to Maple Leafs Players and Staff
Bowen was emotional as he thanked the Leafs’ players and staff for the gifts. He reflected on his journey into broadcasting, which began with his love for the team.
Bowen said that being the voice of the Leafs has been both rewarding and a dream come true.
“This is unbelievable, I thank you, guys. I dreamt of being in this room but I was informed early in my career that I wasn’t going to make it,” Bowen said. “Getting here 44 years ago was a dream come true. It is the organization that I grew up loving.”
