Marcus Rashford has rejected a £35m transfer offer to leave Manchester United but is still planning to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Rashford, 27, has made over 400 appearances for his boyhood club but knows he does not have a future at United while Ruben Amorim is in charge.

Amorim was critical of Rashford’s output in training last season before the former Sporting Lisbon boss sanctioned his loan move to Aston Villa in January.

Rashford is one of a number of players Amorim wants to sell this summer to trim his squad and raised funds for his transfer kitty.

But there is also a desire from Rashford to move on following more than a decade in the Manchester United first team as the stagnating forward believes he would benefit from a summer switch.

A permanent move to Aston Villa was initially raised as a possibility but Unai Emery was forced to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements after it emerged Rashford was prioritising a move to Barcelona.

Rashford is still keen to join the La Liga champions, who are expected to sign a new winger for Hansi Flick before the summer transfer deadline.

Barcelona are known admirers of Rashford and could revive their interest in the England international after missing out on first-choice target Nico Williams.

Williams appeared to be edging towards a move to the Nou Camp only to sign a new 10-year contract with Athletic Bilbao with a £78m release clause.

Barcelona have also expressed interest in Liverpool’s Luis Diaz but continue to be reminded by Rashford’s representatives that he is still keen on the move.

Rashford views Barcelona as his dream destination and as a result has rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, according to Mundo Deportivo.

It is claimed an unnamed Saudi club offered Rashford a contract worth 40m euros (£35m) but were knocked back by the Manchester United outcast.

The Spanish outlet say Rashford could be offered another option to leave United with Serie A giants Juventus now expressing interest in a deal.

A more unlikely outcome would see Rashford and Amorim repair their relationship and former Manchester United star Juan Mata hopes that can still be the case.

‘I saw his first training with us. I love him. As a kid, I called him “the wonderkid”,’ Mata told The Athletic.

‘The way he played was fearless, you could feel he could win a game by himself at any time when he was playing at his best.

‘As a Man United fan and as a friend of Marcus, I wish that he can succeed here because it’s his club, his boyhood club.

‘I don’t know what’s going to happen but if he stays and he can actually be happy and enjoy, I think it will be a win-win situation for both the club and him.’
