The Seattle Mariners could be set to make a major move in the coming days. After coming close to reaching the 2025 World Series, Seattle recently lost Jorge Polanco to free agency. The slugger, who was a key piece of the puzzle with the Mariners, signed a multi-year deal with the New York Mets. Along with Polanco, Eugenio Suarez also opted to become a free agent.
Although Suarez may ultimately return to Seattle, the team has a glaring need to bring in an additional bat. Specifically, the team’s biggest weakness may just be at third base. Ben Williamson played 85 games at the position for the reigning American League West champions during 2025.
The former 16th-ranked Mariners prospect was decent in the role throughout the campaign, but team president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto could look to the trade market for an alternative.
One specific player being linked with the Mariners is Philadelphia Phillies star Alec Bohm. Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly has even named Seattle as the top potential landing spot for the former All-Star third baseman. Kelly claims that while a trade between the two teams could be difficult, Bohm would fit perfectly in Seattle. This notion comes down to the fact that the Mariners need offense and an upgrade over Williamson.
Seattle Mariners have Shown Previous Interest in Alec Bohm

GettyAlec Bohm would seemingly fit in perfectly with the Seattle Mariners.
This is not the first time that the Mariners have been linked with Bohm. In fact, the clubs discussed a potential deal ahead of the 2025 season. Philadelphia, however, complicated the talks because of their hefty asking price for the third baseman. According to reports, the Phillies wanted either Logan Gilbert or George Kirby in return for Bohm. In the end, Seattle balked at the demand.
It remains to be seen if Philadelphia has lowered its asking price for Bohm. Nevertheless, the 2024 All-Star is set to become a free agent after the upcoming season, and the lack of team control should affect the player’s value. Bohm will earn around $10 million in 2026 and is fairly unlikely to sign an extension with the Phillies.
Philadelphia is also currently chasing free agent Alex Bregman. If the Phillies land the former Astro, Bohm would almost certainly be dealt during the current offseason. The National League East team also has top infield prospect Aidan Miller waiting in the wings, and Otto Kemp as an option at the hot corner. ESPN previously rated the possibility of Bohm being traded at 50/50.
Bohm Picked as top Bounce-Back Candidate for 2026
Bohm was previously seen as a can’t-miss prospect in 2020. Although he has shown glimpses of potential, including posting back-to-back seasons with 97 RBIs in 2023 and 2024, he regressed a bit in 2025. Despite this, the third baseman remains a hot pick to bounce back in 2026. A change of scenery, however, could be best for Bohm.
If Seattle does make a move for the All-Star, Bohm would seemingly slot in nicely around a potent lineup that already includes Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, and Josh Naylor. The current Phillies star could also feature at first base when needed. Bohm has played most of his career at third, but he has logged 132 total MLB games at first as well.
