Mark Davis Under Fire Following Latest Raiders Embarrassment vs. Cowboys

The Las Vegas Raiders aren’t doing anything well consistently. After a solid defensive showing in Week 10 against the Denver Broncos, the defense couldn’t do anything to stop the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11.

The offense remains atrocious, but that’s been the case all season. Though Pete Carroll is considered one of the best football coaches of the 2000s, he clearly wasn’t the right pick to turn this Raiders franchise around.

In fact, the team looks worse than it did under Antonio Pierce last year. While Carroll deserves plenty of criticism for how the Raiders have performed this year, there’s only been one figure who has been involved with all of the team’s decision-making for over a decade.

Owner Mark Davis clearly cares a lot about the Raiders, but he continues to cycle through coaches. If things don’t get better soon, there’s a good chance he’ll be in the market for another head coach next year. There have been many franchises that have gone through long lulls that been able to turn things around before the Raiders have. The team hasn’t even won a playoff game since Davis took over. At this point, fans are fed up with how Davis is running the team.

Raiders Fans Want Change of Ownership

In Davis’ defense, he did bring on Tom Brady as a part-owner in an effort to improve the football decision-making. It’s not entirely clear how much Brady decided on this offseason, but if this was all his doing, then that doesn’t bode well for the team’s future.

Regardless, fans would just rather see Davis sell the team at this point.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think the Raiders will ever be close to relevant again until Mark Davis is gone… it’s sad but true,” one fan wrote on X.

“Mark Davis smarten up or sell the team,” another fan wrote.

Some fans believe that Davis has ruined what made the team special.

“Mark Davis RUINED the@Raiders. Ruined them. Destroyed this team, reputation, all of it,” a fan commented.

There are even fans who want to see the NFL get involved and force Davis to sell.

What Should Davis Do?

As much as Raiders fans want to see Carroll gone, the worst thing that Davis could do is fire him right now. The team isn’t going to the playoffs, and if Carroll gets fired, an interim head coach has to be named.

What if Patrick Graham gets promoted to head coach and gets the Raiders a few wins down the stretch? All that leads to is pressure for them to make Graham the permanent head coach and hurt their draft position.

The best course of action is to let the rest of the season play out and make a decision in the offseason. Davis should also be leaning on Brady. While we have no idea if he knows how to run a football team, we know that Davis can’t.

Hiring Carroll doesn’t make much sense in hindsight. He’s the oldest coach in NFL history and is now in charge of a team that needs a multi-year rebuild. The Raiders would’ve been wiser to go after a younger coach. If Carroll is fired, that has to be the move this offseason.
