A football mascot had to be ejected from the stadium after appearing worse for wear during his side’s FA Cup match on Saturday.
The first-round of the FA Cup took place over the weekend, with St. Albans City, who play in the seventh tier of English football, among the non-league clubs looking to cause an upset.
The Saints travelled to League One side Burton Albion, four divisions above them, but it was not their day as they were thrashed 6-0.
But it was the club’s mascot, Sammy the Saint, who made headlines for all the wrong reasons after he was kicked out of the ground before the match had even begun for some not so saintly behaviour.
In footage that has since gone viral on social media, Sammy tumbled over advertising hoarding in front of the away end, before getting up and punching the air.

He proceeded to stumble around, looking incredibly uneasy on his feet, holding onto the rails to prevent another fall.
As the St. Albans fans cheered their mascot’s bizarre antics, Sammy showed his middle fingers to the crowd before gingerly climbing back over the hoarding onto the pitch.
Later, Sammy was filmed being escorted out of the Pirelli Stadium by stewards, still waving to and geeing up the travelling supporters.
As the footage went viral, football fans were left in hysterics and wondered what exactly Sammy – or rather the person under the costume – was up to, with many coming to the same conclusion.
‘Big night? Haha,’ Louise speculated on Twitter, while another fan posted: ‘Poor Sammy had a few pints before kick-off.’
St. Albans supporter Rachel commented: ‘Hilarious!!! He’s never been drunk at Clarence Park.’
‘More Sinner than Saint,’ Kit joked, with Steve adding: ‘Sammy’s no saint.’
St. Albans City have yet to comment on the matter.
It remains to be seen whether Sammy the Saint will be in attendance for St. Albans’ next home match, with the Hertfordshire club taking on Brentwood Town in the Isthmian League Premier Division on November 11.
