Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford echoed head coach Sean McVay in his confusion over a critical 2-point conversion by the Seattle Seahawks on âThursday Night Footballâ in Week 16.
His wife, Kelly, however, echoed wide receiver Puka Nacuaâs highlighting what she felt was questionable behavior by the gameâs officiating crew.
Mrs. Stafford even suggested she planned to take action, if possible.

Kelly Stafford noted the refereesâ actions after a deep completion that moved the Seahawks into Rams territory.
âNever seen refs get this excited about a catch?â Kelly Stafford said in a post on her Instagram stories on December 19. âNow the blown dead two point conversion and illegal man downfield makes sense.
âShould we be looking into this? Can I get these refs names?â
Nacua received a $25,000 fine over his comments before and after the Seahawks game, claiming the officials make calls to be seen on TV.
McVay denounced Nacuaâs comments, while offering support for the wideout, who also foundhimself in hot water over a planned touchdown celebrationâthat never occurred in the endâ featuring antisemitic tropes.
Kelly Stafford is no stranger to sparking controversy with her comments, including about her husbandâs future last offseason.
Matthew Stafford Echoes Sean McVay
GettyLos Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay speaks with Matthew Stafford #9 during a game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Matthew Staffordâs focus was more on one critical play. Stafford said, âI just want to know that rule.â
âOn plays like that two-minute play, or two-point plays inside of two minutes and stuff, I didnât think youâre allowed to advance a fumble,â Stafford told reporters postgame on December 18. âOtherwise, I think everybody would just go down. If youâre going down, just fumble it forward and let somebody else advance. I obviously donât know the rule well enough. Iâm sure they talked to New York or whatever. But that one was interesting to me.â
McVay was as incredulous postgame, and he took it a step further the next day, suggesting asserting his influence as a member of the NFLâs competition committee.
âI think we would all be in agreement, and I have a total appreciation for the layers and the semantics of all the rules, especially being on the competition committee,â McVay told reporters on December 19. âThereâs a lot of empathy and difficult spots that some of our officials, and just everybodyâs in. But I do believe this: that is not something that we want in the game.
âThose will be things that weâll [the competition committee] discuss.â
Rams Dealing With Fallout
GettyLos Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay checks his play sheet during a game against the Detroit Lions.
In the wake of their devastating loss, which saw them drop from first in the NFC to fifth, and to second in their division, while also losing starting right guard Kevin Dotson to an ankle injury, the Rams are reeling.
They still have three games to right themselves, and have already earned a playoff berth.
However, they no longer control their destiny in terms of home-field advantage, and their loss left the door open for the San Francisco 49ers.
Stafford and McVay may be beside themselves over the play, but neither was using thatâor the officials as a whole, for that matterâ as an excuse for their disappointing loss in the immediate aftermath.
