The Dallas Mavericks have been very conservative with Anthony Davis‘ calf injury. Davis has not been healthy since being traded to the Mavericks last season. He has played in just 14 games in the last two seasons.
With Nico Harrison no longer part of the organization, the Mavericks are looking to keep Davis as part of the core group. Patrick Dumont has become more of an influence on the medical staff regarding Davis. Dallas has been very conservative with his health.
Davis has been working his way back into the lineup. Now, the Mavericks have decided to put him back into the lineup for a game against his former team.

Mavericks Forward Anthony Davis to Return vs Lakers
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Davis will make his return to the lineup for a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis has missed the last 14 games with a calf strain. Davis made it known that he wanted to make his return against Los Angeles.
This is the first time that Davis has faced off against the Lakers since he was traded to Dallas. Davis was caught off guard by the trade, like everyone else was, so he certainly wants to show the Lakers that they made the wrong move by trading him.
When it was unclear when Davis would come back, Davis let everyone know that he wanted to play in the Lakers game.
“You know what game I want to play.”
Trade rumors have started to pop up with Davis now that Harrison is no longer with the Mavericks. Davis has tried his best to ignore those rumors and prepare to play basketball.

Dallas Has Been Terrible Without Anthony Davis
Since Davis has hardly played for Dallas this season, the team has cratered in the standings. Dallas sits just 14th in the Western Conference standings. That is the second-worst team in the West, which is not where the team thought they would be coming into the year.
If Davis is able to stay healthy for the rest of the season, they might be able to fight their way back into the play-in. If not, then they might be ready for a top pick in the NBA Draft lottery at the end of the year.
