The Anthony Davis experiment with the Dallas Mavericks is over.
Now that the architect of the Luka Doncic trade is gone and fired, it’s time for the Mavs to start cleaning up the mess Nico Harrison left behind.
It begins with building out this team around No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, who it feels has gotten a raw deal in his rookie season with all of the negativity in Dallas.
The Mavericks have no choice but to start fresh, the blend of veterans with young talent is a hard line to walk for any team, let alone one that just traded away arguably a top-three player in the league.
Dallas needs to be accumulating draft capital and young players that fit Flagg’s timeline.
Mavericks Trade Proposal Sends Anthony Davis to Heat
In a trade idea first proposed by SB Nation, the Dallas Mavericks could send Davis to the Miami Heat for a haul of young players, including All-Star Tyler Herro.
Miami Heat receive: Anthony Davis
Dallas Mavericks receive: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Simone Fontecchio, 2029 first-round pick
In what would be a homerun deal for Dallas, their able to turn AD into a new foundation for the team.
When analyzing the deal, Vishwesha Kumar of Fadeaway World highlighted the positives of landing the youngsters with upside.
“For Dallas, this deal would represent a soft rebuild rather than a teardown. Tyler Herro, still just 25, would instantly become the team’s leading perimeter scorer, offering three-point shooting and secondary playmaking next to Cooper Flagg,” wrote Kumar.
“Kel’el Ware, the 7-foot rookie out of Indiana, brings upside as a rim-protecting big who can stretch the floor. Simone Fontecchio, a versatile forward with solid shooting touch, adds depth and experience.”
“The 2029 first-round pick, meanwhile, is essential. Dallas currently lacks control of its first-rounders in 2027, 2028, and 2030, and ownership has made it clear they want to restock their future assets.”
Herro (25) and Kel’el Ware (21) are perfect complements for Flagg to make matters even better.
Of course, Dallas would still have a number of other veterans on the roster, such as Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and Daniel Gafford.
But they could certainly get some premium assets by shipping those players out as well after a hypothetical Davis trade.
Would the Heat Make the Deal?
For the Miami Heat, this trade almost feels like a no-brainer.
In a weakened Eastern Conference, a front-court pairing of Davis and Bam Adebayo would do wonders for the Heat.
They would lose some scoring output by trading away Herro, but Miami has been shopping their All-Star guard for years; it’s likely something they’re ready for.
The only concern would be Davis’ health. So far in Dallas, he’s played in 14 of 46 possible games since the trade.
Not ideal, but maybe a change of scenery and South Florida would get his body right.
With Harrison finally out in Dallas, this trade doesn’t seem all that far-fetched.
Each team gets what they want: the start of a Mavericks rebuild focused on No. 1 pick Flagg, and the Heat finally return to their status as Eastern Conference contenders.
