Meet the ‘other Murray brother’ who wanted to play Wimbledon ‘Triples’ with Andy and Jamie and does comedy act with Judy

THE ‘other Murray brother’ is hoping to get on court with Andy and Jamie in an unprecedented Wimbledon ‘triples’ event.

And he even ‘joined’ Judy for the emotional send-off on Centre Court.

‘Duncan Murray’ with ‘his mum’ Judy for one of their sketches together

Andy and Jamie have lit up British tennis for nearly two decades – with their mum cheering them on every step of the way.

They have won ten Grand Slams between them – three for Andy, seven for Jamie in doubles and mixed – and teamed up to lead Great Britain to Davis Cup glory in 2015.

Then at Wimbledon 2024, the brothers decided to pair up for the first time at their home Major in Andy’s swansong before retiring.

When the news was announced, though, their ‘brother’ Duncan suggested the three lads line up altogether in a brand-new event.

He tweeted: “If ever there was a time to try out my Triples idea, this is it!! We might not get another chance!!”

In the end, just the two Murrays lost in the first round to Australians Rinky Hijikata and John Peers before Sue Barker and a host of tennis stars past and present joined Andy on court for a wonderful ceremony celebrating his career.

But as mum Judy, Andy’s wife Kim and two of his daughters watched on in the players’ box, their ‘sibling’ Duncan joked he was also in attendance.

Duncan posted a selfie ‘alongside’ Judy as she watched her sons in action on Centre Court.

But not all is quite as it seems.

That is because Duncan’s real name is Chris Forbes, a comedian who created the ‘Other Murray’ character, pretending to be the less-famous sibling of Andy and Jamie.

Duncan’s post on social media to his 35,000 X followers actually showed him posing for photos with Judy from his living room at home with his ‘mum’ on the TV at Wimbledon.

He later shared snaps trying to join in the secret whispers.

Duncan wrote: “Very proud watching my bros. Thanks for the great seat next to you mum! Loving this!

“Wish I’d been better at tennis so I could have been involved in the secret whispers club with my bros.”

But the Other Murray’s alter ego has got him in with the actual Murrays – including teaming up for comedy skits with Judy.

The unlikely double act came together when Duncan managed to convince Judy to do a one-off sketch for the BBC.

But the roaring success led to five pieces for TV – including Children In Need and Comic Relief – before taking their show on the road with live performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Glasgow’s King’s Theatre.

Forbes – who starred in BBC Scotland’s comedy show Scot Squad and does bear some resemblance to the Murray bros – said: “To this day, there’s still a lot of people all over the world that believe he’s real. They really believe that Andy and Jamie have this third brother.

“Sometimes I even curse Duncan because his Twitter account has 30,000 followers and I have about eight.

“It’s actually quite sad because every other day people tweet to say that they have just found out that he isn’t real and they are heartbroken.

“I was thinking about Liam and Noel Gallagher’s third brother. You don’t hear about him. And then I read an article about Tom Cruise’s younger brother and I thought, ‘Oh, man. Imagine having to live up to that.’

“The Murrays, I thought, would be the ideal family to have this fictional brother because all of them are into tennis, including obviously Judy.

“I approached Judy and unbelievably she was up for it and the rest is history.

“I had no idea she would be so good at it and really throw herself into it.

“Once she said she was onboard and liked the idea, I just changed the script and gave her loads of lines and she loved it.”

Tennis stars’ new careers

PLENTY of tennis stars have stayed involved in the sport since retiring.

But others pursued very different careers. Here are some of the best…

I reached French Open and Wimbledon finals as a teenager but I quit to become a nun
I won Wimbledon mixed doubles with my sister but got fed up with English weather so now run luxury B&B
I was tipped for stardom aged 12 but retrained to become high-flying lawyer
I earned £9m and won French Open before setting up bistro with Brazilian model girlfriend
I’m last Frenchman to win Roland Garros, now I’m singer with six albums hitting No1 in charts
I’m former world No1 but quit aged 29 – instead I went on to play professional poker and golf
I was destined for the top but swapped lobs for labs as award-winning Harvard physicist

Strictly Come Dancing star and tennis coach Judy, 64, added to the Daily Record: “Some of the things Chris came up with were just so funny, I ended up in hysterics.

“It was all Chris’s idea to play the uncoordinated son who continually disappoints his mother. He plans the whole show out.

“As Duncan, he is constantly trying to find something that he might be good at, that he might have a talent for, to try to impress me. And, of course, he always messes everything up.

“I just have to react with disappointment. I can get into the persona of the disappointed mother.

“I’m choosing to do things that are fun rather than going hammer and tongs at the tennis like I have done for many years.”

Judy may be disappointed with Duncan but can be immensely proud of her two real sons.

Andy paid tribute to his family when interviewed by Barker at his final Wimbledon – before revealing embarrassing details of his first date with wife Kim.

Murray said: “Mum and Dad have been amazing support when we were little and allowing us to go and pursue our dreams.

“Jamie left home to go to train when he was 12. I went to Spain. I know having children, I don’t like them being away for a day.

“To let us train abroad and pursue our dreams, we couldn’t do that without their support, thank you Mum and Dad.

“Kim is an amazing, amazing support to me, my whole family, the best mum… unfortunately she will have to see me every day in a couple of months.

“Things might be rocky but hopefully we can stick it out and I’m looking forward to the rest of our lives together ”
