The New York Mets are looking to add an outfielder this offseason. With Steve Cohen’s lucrative spending habits and the team’s continuous high payroll, New York will continue to be linked to the highest-profile free agents. At this moment, that appears to be Kyle Tucker, as it’s been all offseason.
According to a recent report by the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the New York Mets have “checked in” on Kyle Tucker’s camp about a possible contract. Tucker is a four-time All-Star and 2X Silver Slugger award winner, and is receiving contract projections in the $400 million range.

Should the Mets Sign Kyle Tucker?
After trading away Brandon Nimmo and losing Cedric Mullins in free agency, the Mets are left with a depleted outfield group, aside from Juan Soto.
New York also decided to part ways with Jeff McNeill, who was thought to be a potential candidate for an outfield role in 2026.
There’s no doubt the Mets will either trade or sign an outfielder; it’s just a matter of when, who, and how much they will commit to that player.
Aside from Kyle Tucker, the other top options include Cody Bellinger and Harrison Bader.
The report came from Jon Heyman, and MLBTradeRumors.com added analysis on what the Mets’ thoughts might be this offseason with spending:

“If Stearns wants to make a big splash, thereâs no better way to do so than by signing the top free agent on the market. The Mets are reportedly hesitant to sign a starting pitcher to a long-term contract this winter. Whatâs more, Heyman notes that Tuckerâs presumably high asking price is why Cody Bellinger remains their preferred outfield target.”
While Bellinger may still be the Mets’ preferred target, two things can be true in the Tucker sweepstakes: the Mets can still be a top player, and prefer to land Bellinger because of his more team-friendly contract demands.
What is Kyle Tucker’s Contract Projection?
The assumption at this point is that Kyle Tucker is going to land the biggest free agent contract in MLB.
Sportsgrid.com recently did its own projections for the top remaining free agents, and to no surprise, Tucker is the top option, and his contract prediction is 10 years, $430 million.
- 2025 Stats: 136 G, .266/.377/.464, 22 HR, 73 RBI, 25 SB, 136 wRC+, 4.5 fWAR
- “Contract Prediction: 10-year, $430 million deal (AAV: $43M)”
The biggest dynamic of this rumor is the fact that the Mets have an open spot in the outfield for Kyle Tucker. The current Opening Day left field option is Carson Benge.
There’s still a long way to go, and it may be more likely the Mets land Bellinger rather than Tucker, but both star outfielders’ sweepstakes will be a must-follow during MLB’s hot stove season.
