Mets Trade Proposal Poaches Yankees All-Star Trade Target

The Milwaukee Brewers just find ways to win baseball games, and there’s something to be said about that. However, for the New York Mets, for more reasons than one, that isn’t exactly ideal. Not only are the Brewers only one game behind the Mets in the National League Wild Card, but New York would likely love some of Milwaukee’s players at the deadline.

One of those players is none other than Freddy Peralta, who many believe could be traded. When recently looking at teams that could trade for him, CBS Sports linked the Mets to a deal for the right-hander.

“While conventional wisdom suggests Peralta, the best starter on a playoff-caliber team, should remain in place, I think there’s reason to include him, if only just in case.

“Peralta’s name has populated the rumor mill dating back to the offseason before last, when the Brewers traded Corbin Burnes. He’s now under contract for just one more season, suggesting a move is probably coming at some point before Opening Day 2026… Given the expected state of the market, Peralta could be the top available starter, creating the possibility that the Brewers could leverage other clubs to net an impressive return. I don’t think a trade is a given, and truth told I’d prefer the Brewers keep Peralta and try to win a title. If you squint, though, you can see the stars coming into alignment on this one,” they wrote.

Would Brewers Trade Freddy Peralta?

Moving on from Peralta would be tough to justify for the Milwaukee Brewers, but they’ve made many moves in recent years that simply don’t make much sense.

Frankly, unlike the New York Mets, the Brewers’ ownership doesn’t tend to spend.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Peralta has been attempting to secure a long-term deal to stay in Milwaukee. For the Mets, it’s ideal that he hasn’t gotten one yet.

“The small-market Brewers can surprise. But though Freddy Peralta is an ace to watch as a long-shot trade possibility, the belief is that with them holding an $8M 2026 option, he is unlikely to go. He has unsuccessfully tried for an extension,” he wrote.

Mets Will Hope Brewers Begin to Tumble

If the Milwaukee Brewers decide to move on from Peralta, the New York Mets have to hope that they start playing horrible baseball over the next few weeks before the July 31 deadline. When looking at the possibility of that happening, a Brewers writer recently suggested that they won’t move him, adding that unless they start to play poorly over the next few weeks, it makes more sense to have Peralta on the roster as they’ll likely be heading to the postseason.

“For the Brewers to even consider trading away their ace at this year’s deadline, not only would the team have to have a really poor next few weeks on the field and clearly fall out of the postseason race, but they would also have to receive an offer that everyone agrees is a steep overpay,” Tyler Koerth wrote.

“If they keep playing the way that they have over the last month, that thought won’t even enter the minds of the experts in the Brewers’ front office.”

The Mets will have to give up a decent haul to land the right-hander, and it’s uncertain if their farm system is good enough to get him. However, if it is, they have to at least give it a chance.
