The Miami Dolphins are hosting the Los Angeles Chargers today at 1 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium. The 1-4 Dolphins are off to a miserable start, plenty of people want the coach fired, plenty of people want the general manager fired and the “star” quarterback says dumb stuff like this.
This week, Tua Tagovailoa essentially said that all of the losing is fine as long as you stay off of Facebook.
“I would say it hasn’t been as difficult this year just because, as I’ve said in prior interviews, I’m not on social media; I don’t have any of that,” Tagovailoa said via Fox News, where all of the hard-hitting NFL interviews are done. “And then, outside of that, I go home and see my kids. Whether I throw five picks or five touchdowns, we win the game, we lose the game, I get to come home to my kids, who are happy to see me every time.”
That’s good to know, Tua. Fantastic actually, I’m very happy for you.
Look, technically he didn’t say anything that awful. However, when your team is 1-4 and plenty of people spend a lot of time, money and resources into cheering on a team that stinks, they don’t want to hear their leader say “it’s just important that we all had a good time.”
Fans are responding to Tua Tagovailoa’s comments
The good folks over at The Spun were kindly enough to put together a collection of Dolphins fans reactions to Tua’s latest quotes. It’s important to note that he’s not having a bad season statistically. Sure, the Dolphins are a train wreck that you have to watch to get the full scope of awfulness, but fantasy football wise Tua has been okay.
He’s completing a robust 70.7% of his passes for 1,008 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Stats? Not bad. Comments and team record? Bad.
“It’s over,” one fan wrote on X, according to The Spun.
“He should retire, this is loser mentality,” a second fan commented.
“Yeah he knows he’s getting released soon lol. You think his team doesn’t block now just wait,” another fan said.
“You know it’s over when athletes start talking about how successful they are in their personal lives,” a social media user said.
The good news for Tua is that he isn’t on social media and doesn’t have to read such things!
Head coach says Tua Tagovailoa has to learn to deal with the criticism
Any Dolphins fans that haven’t turned on Tua yet are merely waiting to do so. He’s not a bad quarterback by any stretch of the imagination, but he’s always hurt, the Dolphins lose a lot and he’s not passing the eyeball test.
Head coach Mike McDaniel says that comes with the territory and he’s just going to have to deal with it.
“While that is also always true, bottom line, black and white, you’re held accountable for the results while you’re trying to get better,” McDaniel said. “That’s difficult. I think he’s as experienced as anyone with positive or negative noise, and I think in that, you find the best version of yourself when you’re able to allow your own thoughts and decisions to dictate your opinion of yourself and how you’re carried towards others and how you handle all those things. So not easy, but I think that’s something that no quarterback in the National Football League is not exposed to.
“I think that’s something that is very, very challenging and what separates people is that ability to work within the noise. If they tell you you’re awesome or that you suck, how does that relate to what you’re doing to influence your next performance? That’s what he does.”
It’s great that Tua says he’s learned to tune out the bad stuff when he loses so he can enjoy his time with his kids, but the fans are going to respond with, “hey, miss me with that.”
