Miami Dolphins’ Star Says the Team is “Delusional”

The Miami Dolphins were at it again on Sunday. Just when you think this team is left for dead, they get ready for their routine pasting at the hands of the Buffalo Bills and raise some eyebrows. I’m not a gambler, but usually when you are 9.5-point underdogs you don’t have a great chance to win.

But, just when you realize the Dolphins are a dysfunctional mess (and they are), they go out and play like they did on Sunday and get a shocking 30-13 win at home.

Count defensive end Bradley Chubb as one of those who has believed. With all of the talk about how the Dolphins season was over, Chubb said the team believed in themselves because they are “delusional.”

“It didn’t matter. We just showed up to work,” Chubb said after Sunday’s game. “Everybody had that same mindset, and that’s why I used the word ‘delusional’ because nobody on the outside’s going to believe it. But all of us in there knew and came out and showed it today.

“It’s just about the belief, man, everybody there believing in each other, believing in the process, believing in how we’re going to take the field, and that’s what worked.”

The Miami Dolphins’ head coach must be delusional too

It’s anyone’s guess why Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel would still want this job. Maybe he doesn’t and he’s just going through the motions, but it doesn’t seem like it.

McDaniel said the team hasn’t lost its focus and hasn’t lost faith all season (even if there really is no way that’s true).

“They’ve chosen to believe throughout the whole thing, throughout the whole season,” McDaniel said. “They’ve made that decision to continue to believe and continue to invest in each other. So, my belief just in football and in life is that that is paid back to you.

“I think it’s pretty obvious from their play that they didn’t believe their season was over — that’s difficult to do when everyone’s talking to you about the season being over.”

I hate to break it to you, Mike, but the season has been over for a very long time.

McDaniel thinks the Miami Dolphins earned respect

First of all, I like McDaniel a lot. I think he’s a great offensive mind and a wonderful personality. But, this team has been a nightmare since Week 1. Okay, probably before Week 1.

“I’m very happy that everyone gets to see the side that I see,” McDaniel said. “I see guys — win, lose or draw — focus and lean in and buy in. And I think eventually you have games where it comes together in situations like that. So, I think it’s awesome because they deserve it. Not a surprise to me. … We knew that if we wanted to gain some respect from that team, we had to earn it.”

The Dolphins are now 3-7 and even the most loyal optimist knows there is no way the Dolphins can make the postseason. Stranger things have happened, but the Dolphins will come crashing back to Earth sooner or later just like they always do.

But, for today, enjoy a huge win over a division rival.
