If the play of many Miami Dolphins‘ players was measured the same we judge the behavior of our children, they’d be put into timeout, have video game privileges revoked and have some toys taken away.
Well, the Miami Dolphins’ players have had their toys taken away.
According to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, someone in Dolphins’ management decided that one way to win games would be for the team to focus more on the football stuff they’ve been so bad at this year, and less on things that might distract them from their daily misery of being a Dolphin.
“The popular Pop-A-Shot, a second basketball hoop and the card-playing table have all suddenly disappeared from the players’ locker room, suffering the same fate as the legendary ping-pong table years ago that Tyreek Hill swore would make a comeback,” writes Habib. “It was last seen on milk cartons.”
Left tackle Patrick Paul made light of the whole thing because what else is he supposed to do? Anything regarding the Dolphins these days – no matter how bad it is – can only be met with shrugging and laughter.
“Honestly, I got beat and I got mad and I just broke the whole thing,” Paul said. “No, I’m kidding. But yeah, I don’t know. Wanted to redecorate, I guess.”
Miami Dolphins don’t think toy removal stems from the team’s record
When Stephen Ross fired general manager Chris Grier a week ago, it seemed like a big ol’ house cleaning was on the way. Who is the next shoe to drop?! We’re blowing this thing up and it starts today!
Well, head coach Mike McDaniel is still here and probably not going anywhere until the day after the last game of the season. Or an hour or two after the final whistle…you know, whichever comes first. The only trade deadline move they made that had any significance was the deal that sent edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick.
So, no major coaching or personnel moves were made…guess it’s time to start revoking privileges?
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle said it’s “not necessarily” tied to the team’s 2-7 record, but we all know if they were 7-2 and functioning like a normal NFL team they would have added air hockey and two Addams Family pinball machines.
“I think there’s a lot of furniture being moved around here,” he said.
Left defensive tackle Benito Jones tried to put a positive paint job on things as though the Miami Dolphins’ Titanic season wasn’t an every-man-for-themselves situation at this point.
“We just want to focus on the little things,” Jones said, adding that this was a players’ decision and didn’t come from above.
Stephen Ross said changes are coming for the Miami Dolphins
Last week, when Ross led Grier to the gallows, he said that organizational change was on the way. And after the news of the arcade game defenestration from the team facility, it’s clear he meant it!
“As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait,” Ross said in a statement last week, possibly alluding to the removal of circus games. “We must improve — in 2025, 2026 and beyond — and it needs to start right now. Champ Kelly will serve as interim general manager effective immediately, and we will begin our search process for a new general manager. I want to thank Champ for stepping up and his commitment to the Dolphins’ success this season. There is a lot of football left to play, and we all need to fight even harder.”
It certainly doesn’t sound like the recreational situation was Kelly’s decision, but imagine if it was. Could you imagine doing something that would make you less popular with the players in your first week? Parking spots are next! We’re just a 2-8 record away from no more Extra-Pudding Fridays!
