Micah Parsons wasn’t happy about him and the rest of the Green Bay Packers defense letting down starting quarterback Jordan Love during Week 4’s tie with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
The Packers managed to avoid a loss to the Cowboys with a final-second field goal in overtime that resulted in a 40-40 draw, but the defense had a rough night trying to contain Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Dallas’ generally effective run game.
Prescott completed 31 of his 40 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns and ran in another score on the ground in his sharpest performance of the season. Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ run game gradually chipped away at the Packers defense, which surrendered a season-high 117 rushing yards and two touchdowns and failed to force a turnover.
By the end of the night, the Packers had given up nearly twice as many yards (436) to the Cowboys as they had, on average, in their first three games of the season (232.2).
That didn’t sit well with Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher.
“S***, I’m not even going to lie, I’m pissed off. I’m very disappointed in just, overall, how we performed,” Parsons said Sunday. “I even told Jordan to the side, you know, ‘Thank you for having our back today.’ You know, that’s why it’s so pivotal to, you know, you play complementary football. Because today, Jordan played like the player he was, and we let him down. We didn’t live up to the level of expectation on defense.”
Jordan Love Answered the Call Against Cowboys
Parsons hit the nail on the head about Love in Sunday’s tie with the Cowboys. Through all four quarters and the overtime period, he did an excellent job leading the offense.
Love completed 31 of 43 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns, all season highs. It was only the second time in Love’s career that he had thrown at least three touchdown passes in a game and the first time he had done so without throwing an interception. He also completed all 26 of his passes that he threw 10 yards or more downfield in the tie.
Additionally, the Packers managed to keep the pocket mostly clean for Love despite not having three of their top seven offensive linemen available due to injury. The Cowboys only sacked Love once in the game, a welcomed step forward after the Packers allowed the Cleveland Browns to bring down Love five different times in Week 3’s loss.
The Packers will win plenty of games if Love continues to play like that, so long as they can sort out their issues on defense to avoid another disaster like they had in Texas.
Will Micah Parsons & Defense Rally After Bye Week?
The Packers will have their bye week in Week 5 to regroup and recharge. Will that give Parsons and the defense enough time to snap out of their prime-time funk, though?
For all intents and purposes, the Packers have done solid work on defense in 2025. They allowed fewer than 100 rushing yards combined in their first two wins of the season and hadn’t allowed more than 18 points in a game until this week’s draw. They have also tallied 11 team sacks through four games, tied for seventh in the league.
What would help the Packers is more takeaways. They are one of just eight teams in the league with two or fewer takeaways through the first four weeks of the season, and two of those teams — the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins — have yet to play in Week 4.
As for Parsons, he doesn’t really need to bounce back as an individual. He was far and above the best defensive player on the field for the Packers against the Cowboys, closing out the game with eight pressures, one sack, three quarterback hits and three tackles. He also earned an impressive 94.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus for his effort.
Even still, count on the Packers making adjustments during the bye week to prevent allowing another offense to run rampant on them, as the Cowboys did Sunday night.
