The Miami Dolphins are on a bit of a roll, as they have rattled off four straight wins to push their record up to 6-7 on the season. After facing a ton of heat early in the season, head coach Mike McDaniel has successfully managed to rally the troops, and the Dolphins have emerged as a sneaky contender for a wild-card spot in the AFC.
One guy who has been critical to the team’s success is running back De’Von Achane, as he’s been one of the most productive players at his position in the entire league. After enjoying a strong start against the New York Jets in Week 14, Achane was forced out of the game early with a rib injury, but he received a positive update from McDaniel that will surely ease fans’ concerns.
Mike McDaniel Issues De’Von Achane Injury Update
Achane was tabbed the Dolphins’ starting running back in 2024, but this season, he’s had to take on an even bigger role on offense. With Tyreek Hill suffering a season-ending knee injury back in Week 4, Achane has become the focal point of Miami’s offense, and he has delivered the goods. Through 13 games, Achane has 1,126 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, while also catching 55 passes for 383 yards and four more scores.
While Achane receives a high volume of touches, he’s arguably been the most productive running back in the league when he has the football in his hands. Achane is leading the league with 5.8 yards per carry, which is even more impressive when considering the woes Tua Tagovailoa and the passing game have experienced throughout the year.
Achane appeared to be in line for a career day against the Jets, as he had 92 yards and a score on just seven carries, while also catching one pass for another 13 yards. He ended up leaving late in the first half of the game with a rib injury, though, and with Miami in complete control of the game, he ended up not returning. McDaniel revealed on Monday that Achane wanted to return to the game, but he ultimately ended up holding him out for his own safety.
“Dolphins RB De’Von Achane rib injury Sunday came from falling on ball,” Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network shared in a post on X. “He was adamant to Mike McDaniel he could have returned to game and he’s highly motivated to play next Monday vs. Steelers. No fracture, he had MRI. Just treatment and maybe a little practice rest. Good news.”
Dolphins Avoid Worst Case Scenario with De’Von Achane Injury

While it’s always concerning to see a player leave a game early and not return, it doesn’t seem like Achane’s injury is serious. Had he been needed, he could have gotten back on the field: the team simply didn’t want to risk him getting even more injured in a game they were in complete control of. And with an MRI revealing no fracture, that has the Dolphins hoping Achane won’t be out very long if he ends up having to miss time.
Miami’s offense stalled once Achane left the game, so it will need him on the field if it wants to continue its winning streak. The Dolphins have a tough matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15, and if they intend to make a surprise playoff push, they are going to need Achane. It appears as if the worst-case scenario has been avoided, but Achane’s status will be worth keeping tabs on throughout the week.
