MLB Writer Predicts Milwaukee Brewers to Trade Away Beloved 3.03 Starter

The Milwaukee Brewers are having a fantastic season, one of their best in franchise history, which just saw the organization have its best 60-game stretch of all time. Milwaukee is rolling and has now won six straight after a sweep of the Atlanta Braves, and continues to hold a four-game lead in the National League Central.

They are looking to win the NL Central for the fourth time in the last five seasons, but the team’s ambitions likely don’t stop at winning the division. Milwaukee has not made it to the NLCS since 2018 despite making the playoffs five times.

What Does the Future Have in Store for Milwaukee’s Rotation

The Milwaukee Brewers don’t often spend much on free agents and usually get ahead of looming players’ contracts. With ace Freddy Peralta already having speculation of being traded, the reality of it could become true this offseason, as the 2026 season is Peralta’s last year of control by the Brewers.

CBSSports R.J. Anderson recently named Freddy Peralta as a top trade candidate this offseason:

“Peralta has been a key part of the Brewers rotation for the past five years, but the reality of Milwaukee baseball is that they always have to account for the future. He’ll be enering his walk year, meaning a trade would follow in the cleatprints of the Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams deals, allowing the Brewers to recoup players who could help sooner than whomever they’d gain through draft-pick compensation. The Brewers don’t always move players before they hit the open market — Willy Adames  was a notable exception — so it’s possible that they hold tight, but the precedent is there.”

A trade like this has potential because the Brewers have strong confidence in some of the starters they already have, plus others coming down the pipeline. Milwaukee has a strong track record of developing pitchers that nobody else has been able to. Case in point is Quinn Priester this season, who was traded twice before landing in Milwaukee, where he has thrived. The Brew Crew also has rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski, who could unquestionably anchor their rotation.

Freddy Peralta Has Been Everything and More for Milwaukee

That said, since the Corbin Burnes departure, Freddy Peralta has been a true ace for the Milwaukee Brewers the last couple of seasons.

Over 24 starts this season (Most in baseball), Peralta has a 3.03 ERA in 130.2 innings and 141 strikeouts. He could potentially have another 200-strikeout season, which would be his third consecutive as a Brewer. Peralta has not had an ERA below four in his last six seasons in Milwaukee.

2025 marked his second All-Star berth, and this might be his most complete season as a starter. He made his first All-Star appearance in 2021, throwing 144 innings with a 2.81 ERA, and now shows a more complete profile, giving Milwaukee quality starts and logging a high number of innings.

Peralta has 86 starts and counting over the last three seasons, and looks to have a third straight season of 165+ innings. It would certainly hurt Milwaukee to give up Peralta, but his market would be extremely high, and the Brewers would get an insane haul for one of the best starters in baseball over the last three seasons.
