Mock Draft Has Giants Laying Foundation for Future With Trade Haul

As of December 9, the New York Giants hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Of course, there are four games left, and draft positioning is far from being set in stone. But if the Giants find themselves in the first slot at season’s end, what should they do with it?

Considering the number of holes on the roster, it would likely be in New York’s best interest to trade the pick and acquire more capital to help build out the team.

That’s exactly what Pro Football Focus’s latest mock draft has them doing, striking a deal with the Los Angeles Rams to land themselves two selections in the first round, including one in the top 10.

Mock Draft Has Giants Trading Back From No. 1 for Haul

PFF’s Trevor Sikkema projects a New York Giants trade back, allowing the Los Angeles Rams to move up to No. 1 to select Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, landing the heir apparent to Mathew Stafford.

“The Rams got a gift last year when they traded back with Atlanta and picked up a future first that now sits in the top 10, and there may be no better use of it than going all-in to secure their quarterback of the future,” wrote Sikkema.

“They’d likely need to part with at least their two first-round picks to move up to No. 1.”

While Sikkema doesn’t have an exact trade compensation listed, his estimate of two first-rounders is a good starting point.

The Giants would likely also ask for either a 2026 second or third-round pick, considering they don’t have their own third, thanks to the Jaxson Dart trade-up.

While sticking and picking at No. 1 is certainly an attractive option, the possibility of adding two high-impact players is too good for Big Blue to pass up, making the trade down a no-brainer.

Giants Land a New Weapon No. 9 Overall

Now picking with the ninth overall selection, the New York Giants select Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate.

“Outside of limited snaps in the Grambling game early in the year, Tate doesn’t have a single-game receiving grade below 72.0,” continued Sikkema.

“He’s as consistent as they come with refined route running and strong hands, and his addition would form an outstanding duo with Malik Nabers in New York.”

With Wan’Dale Robinson in the final year of his rookie deal and set to test the free agent market, New York is able to land his replacement at No. 9 with Tate.

With a young quarterback under center, the Giants need to do everything in their power to surround him with the tools to succeed, and giving Dart a pass catcher from Ohio State is a proven recipe for success.

Giants Bolster Secondary With Second First-Round Pick

With the projected 31st pick, the New York Giants select Clemson cornerback Aveion Terrell to boost a rather weak secondary.

“After landing a difference-making wide receiver with their first of two selections in Round 1 via their trade with the Rams, I have the Giants turning to cornerback,” wrote Sikkema.

“Terrell, the younger brother of Falcons corner A.J. Terrell, is on the smaller side at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, but he’s feisty and physical, evidenced by his eight forced fumbles in college. He can play inside or outside, similar to Andru Phillips.”

With Cordale Flott expected to hit free agency, New York has a need at cornerback and fills the void with Terrell.

For this Giants team in desperate need of talent, the trade back does wonders for their foundation, landing two young studs at valuable positions.

If this offer from the Los Angeles Rams is on the table come April, New York’s brass would be hard-pressed to turn it down.
