New 1,000 Guineas favourite as potential Aidan O’Brien star emerges at Royal Ascot

BEDTIME STORY emerged as a potential new star for Aidan O’Brien after a demolition job in the Chesham at Royal Ascot.

An impressive winner on debut at Leopardstown, she was well found in the market and was sent off 11-8 favourite for the Saturday opener.

And those who had a go at those odds never had a moments doubt that they were on the winner.

Bedtime Story tanked through the race under Ryan Moore and when she was asked to accelerate, she did so in frightening fashion.

She pulled just under TEN LENGTHS clear in a matter of two furlongs, announcing herself as the new favourite for next year’s 1,000 Guineas.

Bookmakers Paddy Power and Betfair make her 3-1 for next year’s Classic, going ahead of yesterday’s Albany winner Fairy Godmother, who is 9-2 with the latter.

Top jock Moore is a man of few words, but even he was struggling to contain his excitement about this filly.

He told ITV Racing: “The only time I worked was pulling her up, really – it was a very good feeling.

“She travelled very easily, even though they went too slow for her really.

“I started to come forward at the three-furlong pole and the race was over very quickly – it’s a brilliant feeling.

“The rest were all dead two furlongs from home and we were still rolling.

“We don’t know what’s next for her, it’s only June and we don’t know what she’s beaten yet. But, you don’t usually see a performance like this.”

The Chesham has a habit of unearthing stars, with Churchill, Pinatubo, Battleground and Point Lonsdale all winning it in recent years.
