The Houston Rockets were recently dealt some crushing news, as starting point guard Fred VanVleet suffered a torn ACL that will likely lead to him missing the entire 2025-26 campaign. Still, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the Rockets as they enter the new season, largely because of the arrival of superstar forward Kevin Durant.
Early in the offseason, Houston picked up Durant in a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns, with the hope being that he could elevate the team to championship contender status. Now, Durant is getting ready for his first season with his new team, and a clip of him putting in some work at the Rockets’ facility has emerged that will surely excite fans.
Kevin Durant is Already Getting to Work for the Rockets
In order to land Durant this offseason, the Rockets had to put together a historic seven-team trade. For Houston, they ended up receiving Durant, while also reuniting with veteran center Clint Capela, and in exchange, they parted with Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft (which was used to select Khaman Maluach), and five second-round picks.
If that seems like a steep price to pay, that’s because it is. Even though Durant is set to enter his age-37 season, though, he may just be worth it, especially if he can lead the Rockets to a championship. In 62 games with the Suns last season, Durant averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting a blistering 52.7% from the field.
With Durant joining an upstart team that features young stars in Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson, this team could be deadly this season if they can all get on the same page. Durant, for his part, is already getting ready for the new season, as he was seen putting in some work at Houston’s facility, which will surely get the team’s fanbase hyped for the 2025-26 campaign.

Houston took a major step forward last season, and yet, it still feels like they fell short of expectations when all was said and done. After earning the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, the Rockets were quickly eliminated from the postseason in the first round by the Golden State Warriors, showing that they still had a lot of work to do to emerge as a true threat in the West. Heck, that’s a big reason why the front office traded for Durant this offseason.
There are certainly concerns about Durant, as he’s getting up there in age, and he’s fresh off a failed stint with the Suns, which saw the team win just one playoff series with him on their roster during his two-and-a-half-season stint with them. The Rockets are hoping that things play out differently for them with Durant, and if they do, they could end up emerging as one of the top teams in the league this year.
