It has been an interesting off-season for the Edmonton Oilers. Among their most notable moves was trading both Evander Kane and Viktor Arvidsson. While they added Andrew Mangiapane and prospect Isaac Howard, they could still use another forward before the season is here.
When looking at trade candidates around the league, Chicago Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel stands out. He could be a solid low-risk, high-reward for the Oilers to take a chance on.
Heavy Sports has a new trade proposal that has the Blackhawks sending Reichel to the Oilers in an intriguing move.
Oilers Get:
- Lukas Reichel
Blackhawks Get:
- 2026 Second-Round Pick
- 2028 Third-Round Pick
- Mattias Janmark
Blackhawks Have Listened to Offers on Reichel
It is not exactly a secret that Reichel has been the subject of trade rumors. It is understandable, as he has struggled to find his fit with the Blackhawks. Furthermore, the Blackhawks have plenty of other promising young forwards who could very well pass Reichel on their depth chart.
According to The Fourth Period, the Blackhawks have taken calls on Reichel. It is why he earned the No. 23 spot on their 2025 Summer Trade Watch List.
“Teams have been calling about Reichel and the Blackhawks have been listening,” The Fourth Period reported. “He’s going into the final year of his current contract and will remain controllable after this season.”
With Reichel being a young forward with good upside, he is a player who could make sense for the Oilers. This is especially so when noting that he has an affordable $1.2 million cap hit until the end of next season.
Reichel Has Connection With Oilers General Manager
Another reason why the Oilers could make a lot of sense for Reichel is that he already has a past connection with Edmonton general manager Stan Bowman. This is because Bowman selected Reichel with the 17th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft while he was the general manager of Chicago. Thus, Reichel is a player who Bowman had high faith in when he selected him in the first round. With this, it is fair to wonder if Bowman could be interested in bringing Reichel to Edmonton.
When looking at the Oilers’ lineup, it could use a player like Reichel. If he takes that next step and breaks out offensively, he could be a strong fit on their third line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Andrew Mangiapane. However, it could also make a lot of sense to give him a chance to play on a line with fellow German forward Leon Draisaitl in Edmonton’s top six.
Why Oilers Could Land Reichel With This Trade Offer
While Reichel has had trouble taking that next step, the Blackhawks are not just going to give him away. Because of this, the Oilers trading their 2026 second-round pick, 2028 third-round pick, and forward Mattias Janmark could be enough to get this move done.
With this offer, the Blackhawks would acquire two solid draft picks that they could use to improve their prospect pool or trade elsewhere to land NHL-ready talent. As for Janmark, the Blackhawks would be reuniting with a veteran bottom-six who could help mentor their young players as they continue their rebuild. Furthermore, trading Janmark’s $1.45 million cap hit would help Edmonton be able to afford Reichel.
