New video is emerging showing the moments leading up to Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The incident prompted a personal foul penalty on Carter along with an immediate ejection.
New footage shows that Prescott also spit moments before Carter’s now viral moment. Prescott’s spit landed on the ground, while Carter’s went directly on the quarterback.
Former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett reported on the NBC postgame show how Prescott explained the incident unfolding. Prescott was talking to his offensive linemen and needed to spit, according to the former Cowboys coach.
Carter took exception to the moment believing that Prescott was spitting towards him, per Garrett. The Eagles star asked Prescott if he was spitting towards him which sparked confusion from the quarterback.
Here’s a look at the new slow-mo video that shows Prescott also spitting prior to Carter’s incident which prompted an ejection.
Eagles Star Jalen Carter Took Exception to Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Spitting on the Ground
Garrett’s recounting of Prescott’s story tracks with a previous report from Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris. It is not a great look for either player, but Carter clearly escalated the situation by spitting on Prescott when the two players were just inches apart.
“Some more context on the Jalen Carter spitgate: According to two people with knowledge of the ordeal, Dak Prescott spit on the ground in the general vicinity of the Eagles defensive huddle,” Harris remarked in a Sepember 4, 2025, message on X. “Carter thought it was hostile. While Prescott was explaining it wasn’t, Carter spit back.”
Jalen Carter Admits to Making a Mistake by Spitting on Dak Prescott at Start of Cowboys-Eagles Game
Carter was of course a popular interview following the Eagles’ win over the Cowboys. The Eagles defensive tackle admitted to making a mistake while also letting down the fans.
“Eagles DT Jalen Carter said he made a mistake by spitting on Dak Prescott and vowed it won’t happen again: ‘I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. I’m doing it for them,’” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo detailed in a September 5, message on X.
Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb Frustrated by Late Drops vs. Eagles
The Cowboys had a chance to take the lead late but two missed catches by CeeDee Lamb continue to be subject of debate. After the game, Lamb admitted to being frustrated for not completing the catches.
“That’s terrible,” Lamb noted on September 5, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “I can’t point the finger at anybody else. I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it. As a player, I train for moments like that and the ball to come my way.”
“I need to catch the d— ball.”
Lamb and the Cowboys will have a long wait until the franchise gets a chance at redemption. Dallas faces Philadelphia again at home at AT&T Stadium on November 23.
