New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson is Poised to Make History

It’s one of the most exciting times in the New York Knicks‘ franchise right now, because they’ve come so close to making it to the championship for two consecutive years and seem to have the needed momentum to make it happen in the 2025-26 season. The Knicks not only have the momentum, they also have a new head coach in Mike Brown.

While Brown is playing musical chains with some of the team’s players, one player, for certain, won’t be touched, and that’s Jalen Brunson. It’s suffice to say that Brunson is really the heart and soul of the Knicks franchise right now, so why mess with what’s working? Brunson will likely be with the Knicks for a long time, and it would be shocking to think of him going anywhere else at this point.

Now, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has a feature published on Thursday, July 17, predicting where current NBA stars will rank in an all-time greatest tally of players by 2030. We’re talking half a decade down the road, so in just a few years. Bailey has some big expectations of Brunson and think that he’ll make history.

Jalen Brunson and His Future With the New York Knicks

In the piece, Bailey says that it’s not out of the question for Brunson to leap into the tally of the top 50 best NBA players of all time by 2030. That would really make history. His “realistic 2023 range” is top 90, while his “dream 2023 ranking” is top 50.

He seems Brunson realistically leaping Klay Thompson at No. 98 and Dave DeBusschere at No. 95. Bailey also notes some “dream stars” he could leap, including  Paul Pierce at No. 49 and Walt Frazier at No. 43.

“Brunson might need to guide New York to a championship to pass Frazier, who won two. But in the NBA’s parity age, that’s within the realm of possibility,” he notes in the feature.

Frazier adds that after a fairly quiet start to his career in the NBA, where he averaged 11.9 points and 3.7 assists each game for the Dallas Mavericks, Brunson “became a bona fide star for the New York Knicks,” which is certainly the case.

Jalen Brunson Will Benefit From More ‘Deep Playoff Runs’

“If Brunson maintains his level of production in New York (26.4 points and 6.7 assists per game) from now to 2030, he’ll be threatening the top 80 of the career points leaderboard,” Frazier adds. If you also consider “a few more deep playoff runs for the Knicks,” Frazier thinks that “contemporary fans may start to wonder if he’s on the same level as another franchise icon.”

So, while it was heartbreaking to see the Knicks make it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals only to fall to the Indiana Pacers, it showed just how strong and versatile Brunson can be throughout the season. Now, with Brown in place, hopefully the franchise will make small changes to make it easier on Brunson, since he carried so much of the weight of the team last season. With the perfect combination of players around him, Brunson could certainly be crowned one of the best players in NBA history in just a few years.
