New York Knicks’ Most Likely Trade Chip Revealed

The New York Knicks, it seems, have one of the most cemented rosters in the NBA. With Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby all playing key roles, New York is expected to make some adjustments, but the roster should remain intact.

After adding Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele, the Knicks bolstered their depth, and new coach Mike Brown is expected to use all of his assets.

However, veterans Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet are on non-guaranteed contracts, and the Knicks would need to trade away a player if they want to keep both guards.

With fairly limited options, one team insider named their biggest trade asset before the season kicks off.

Knicks Are Expected to Trade Pacôme Dadiet

The Knicks have very real title hopes this season, and it stands to reason that veterans like Shamet and Brogdon can simply play a bigger role than second-year wing Pacôme Dadiet. Drafted 25th overall in 2024, he appeared in only 18 games for New York, averaging 1.7 points.

While teams might be more interested in Towns or Josh Hart if they are available, Dadiet is the odd man out.

“Talking to people in the league as of late, the name I keep hearing most is 20-year-old Pacôme Dadiet,” reported Knicks’ insider James Edwards III to The Athletic. “Given Dadiet’s age, size (6-8, 210) and projected profile if his development shakes out, he has more value around the league than the likes of youngsters Tyler Kolek or Ariel Hukporti.”

Dadiet flashed his athleticism in the G League last season, although at both levels, his outside shot failed to fall at an elite rate. However, he is only 20 years old, and a rebuilding team might take a chance on him, especially if the asking price is low.

Knicks Aren’t in a Position for a Blockbuster

In order to make room for both Brogdon and Shamet, New York can’t take back a rostered player in a deal for Dadiet, and he isn’t worth a first-round pick.

Had Tom Thibodeau given him more chances, his value may have peaked a bit higher, although he is effectively a rookie, and the 2024 draft class was underwhelming at best. It stands to reason that in most draft classes, he would have been a second-round pick and is valued as such.

“I can’t imagine it would be for more than a second-round pick, but some league executives I’ve spoken with think his value is higher than that of Kolek or Hukporti,” Edwards III explained.

Rebuilding teams like the Utah Jazz or Brooklyn Nets might have some interest, and the Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat could use some wing depth. For the price of a distant second-round pick, the Knicks should have plenty of suitors for a small deal.
