New York Native Cameron Young to Achieve Ryder Cup Dream

Cameron Young will join Team USA at this year’s Ryder Cup. The New Yorker will be 1 of 4 first-timers participating at Bethpage Black this September.

However this won’t be Young’s first time making a notable appearance at the Long Island course. He’s made history there once before.

Cameron Young’s History

Back in 2017, Young became the first amateur to win the Met PGA NY State Open Championship. During the pro-am event, Young tied the then-course record with a 64 during the final round. He defeated professional Chris Deforest with a par-4 birdie in a playoff. At the time, Young was a junior at Wake Forest, and had previously appeared at Junior Ryder Cup Team and Junior World Cup Team.

Young grew up in the world of golf. His father David is the former pro at Briarcliff Manor’s  Sleepy Holly Country Club. When asked who was more excited about the upcoming Ryder Cup, Young stated:

“Oh, man. It would be hard to pick. I think he puts in just as many hours to my golf as I do. He’s with me every step of the way,” Young said. “With his connection both to the area up there and to the PGA of America, this is something that has been on both of our radars for a long time, and to get the opportunity to represent my country and play in a Ryder Cup is something that both of us have dreamed of for so long,” He went on to say.

“It’s hard to put into words what it means to both of us, and we’re both certainly very excited.”

2026 has been Young’s best year on the course by far. With a his first PGA Tour win at the Wyndham and seven top-10 finishes, he is more than ready for his Ryder Cup debut.

Young’s First Ryder Cup

Keegan Bradley announced his captain picks, and had plenty of positive things to say about Cameron Young over the past few years.

“Cam has been one of the most consistent players on the Tour the last four or five years,” Bradley said. “He broke through with that amazing win at the Wyndham Championship, and he’s been fighting so hard. Watching him that Sunday with that big lead play like that was incredible. And Cameron is a New Yorker. We’re very proud to have a New Yorker on our team and represent his country at Bethpage Black.”

When Young was asked about making the team, he reflected on his upbringing, looking forward to being back in New York.

“Obviously playing for your country is very special, and for me, the U.S. is home, but New York is really home for me,” said Young. He grew up in Briarcliff Manor. “So going back up there to somewhere that I love, I can’t wait to get up there”

This year making any one of these teams is such a mark of achievement. It’s a goal when you set out the year. But to me, this Ryder Cup in particular, in New York, at Bethpage, is so special to me. I’ve been picturing the moment that I can possibly get a call to play on the team for a very, very long time.”

Other captain’s picks include Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns. These six, along with automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Scauffle, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau will compete against the European Team starting September 26th, 2025.
