Friday was a crazy day around the NFL with Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons requesting a trade. Dallas and Parsons have been trying to figure out a new deal for some time now, and the 26-year-old pass rusher had enough.
Parsons is entering the final year of his contract and has no leverage in any trade. The Cowboys could keep Parsons around for the next few years by franchise tagging him. It’s going to be hard for the four-time Pro Bowler to be moved, but if he does, the Buffalo Bills could be a fit.
Buffalo Needs To Look For Another Pass Rusher
The Bills’ Super Bowl window is now, and adding a pass rusher like Parsons could put them over the top. One thing that has hurt Buffalo in the playoffs is getting after the opposing quarterback.
During last year’s postseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was able to sit back in the pocket, picking up critical first downs.
If the Bills had more of a pass rush, they could’ve gotten their first win over Kansas City in the playoffs in the last five years. Buffalo knew it needed to upgrade the defensive line and added free agent pass rusher Joey Bosa.
Bosa is a nice pickup, but there are concerns about his health. The 30-year-old pass rusher has only appeared in 28 games over the last three seasons. If Bosa gets injured at any time this season, it could cause a decline in the Bills’ pass rush.
Bills And Ravens Could Be In The Mix For Parsons
Buffalo should be actively pursuing Parsons. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk thinks the Bills could be in the mix for the Cowboys’ star.
“The best candidates would be a contending team that hopes to go all in. Their first-round picks would likely be low.”Florio wrote, “The impact Parsons makes could be significant. The obvious candidates are the Bills and the Baltimore Ravens. Both want to get past the Chiefs. Parsons could help make that happen.”
Florio states something interesting that the Bills and Ravens both come to mind for Parsons. First off, there is no way Buffalo can afford to lose any trade to Baltimore. The Bills are having a hard enough time beating the Chiefs and can’t let the Ravens overtake them.
If Parsons is truly available, the Bills need to give whatever the Cowboys are asking, besides trading quarterback Josh Allen. The only issue is that since Buffalo could be a Super Bowl-winning team, their first-round pick will be low.
Since the season hasn’t started yet, a lot of teams think they could be a Parsons away from reaching the Super Bowl. Teams that have the potential of having a higher draft pick than Buffalo could be in the Parsons sweepstakes.
Dallas would likely rather trade Parsons to a team like the Denver Broncos, which thinks it could win a Super Bowl but plays in the tough AFC West.
It will be interesting to monitor how the Cowboys handle Parsons. With less than six weeks away from the regular season, Dallas better find an answer to Parsons’ new contract or trade request.
