NFL Announces Myles Garrett Decision After Controversial Ruling Against Bills

The NFL issued a key stat correction involving Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett from the Buffalo Bills game.

Late in the first half, Garrett pursued Bills quarterback Josh Allen along with a group of other Browns’ defenders. Allen gave himself up and the sack was initially credited to defensive tackle Mason Graham, who was the first to touch the quarterback.

The NFL later corrected the stat, crediting Garrett and Alex Wright with a half-sack each. The change leaves Garrett with 22 sacks on the season, just 0.5 shy of tying the NFL single-season record.

Garrett did not have many opportunities to get after Allen. He’ll have two games remaining to set the record.

Browns DE Myles Garrett Wanted to Sack Josh Allen for Record

The record of 22.5 sacks is held jointly by Michael Strahan and TJ Watt. Strahan set the mark in 2002 by taking down Brett Favre. Heading into the game, Garrett noted similarities between Favre and Allen.

“Absolutely. I mean, he’s a gunslinger himself, so he’s the kind of guy that, I guess you would say, Mike got those years ago,” Garrett said. “I think it’s a bit of a funny comparison because those guys have similar styles and me and Mike have been compared before. It would mean a lot to go against him because he’s very special and I have a lot of admiration for what he can do with a football.”

Garrett wants to set the record in front of a home crowd at Huntington Bank Field during a meaningful game. He’ll have one more chance next week when the Browns host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I want to get in front of the home fans. Most of all, I want to get the win,” Garrett said. “I don’t want it to be, you know, some emotional conflict between, you know, me getting it and we’re getting our tails whooped or you know, we’re down at the end of the game. So, I want to be able to share a joyous moment for everybody.”

Browns’ Myles Garrett Calls Season ‘Tough’ Amid Historic Sack Chase

Garrett demanded a trade in the offseason, making it clear he wanted a chance to play for a contender. Instead, he ultimately committed to Cleveland, signing a four-year, $160 million contract extension to remain with the Browns.

The move hasn’t changed the franchise’s immediate outlook. Cleveland is no closer to competing for a Super Bowl despite Garrett’s dominant, record-chasing season. Still, amid a frustrating year, Garrett has taken pride in giving Browns fans something to celebrate.

“I’ve been here for years where I wanted to see more, and then I’ve also been here for a couple of years in which this place has been really packed, and I was just ecstatic to be a part of an environment like that,” Garrett said. “And we want to continue to make them proud however I can, and we can. And keep on putting butts in seats and putting smiles on faces.”

After seeing the Steelers, the Browns will close out the year against the Cincinnati Bengals.
