The NFL has handed down its punishment for Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Dalton Risner after he was flagged for unnecessary roughness in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers.
According to the NFL fines page, the veteran guard was docked $7,431 for committing a leg whip during the third quarter of the Bengalsâ 27-18 loss.
Risner Has Helped Stabilize Bengals’ O-Line
Risner, a 2019 second-round pick with 81 career starts in the NFL, joined the Bengals on a one-year, $1.3 million deal in August. Thrust into the lineup after Lucas Patrick sustained a calf injury in Week 1, Risner has settled in nicely at guard.
According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), the 6-foot-5, 312-pound Risner is ranked 65th out of 109 eligible guards with a grade of 56.5. More specifically, Risner is 48th as a pass blocker and 70th as a run blocker.
PFF also graded Risner, 30, as the Bengalsâ second-best blocker (62.1) in Thursdayâs 33-31 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Bengals (3-4) totaled season highs in both scoring and yardage (470), as seven of their 10 possessions resulted in points. Afterward, quarterback Joe Flacco, who threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, lauded the Bengalsâ offensive line.
âReally, really happy about how the guys just kinda stayed with it for a full 60 minutes,â Flacco said, via NFL.com. âMan, our offensive line was going today. We were running the football, protecting, doing a lot of things that we wanted to do.â
Risner Joined Bengals’ Roster in Late August
Risner was originally drafted 41st overall out of Kansas State in 2019. He was with the Denver Broncos for four seasons before spending the last two years with the Minnesota Vikings. He made 81 starts, including eight at right guard.
Risner worked out for the Bengals in late August, just days before final roster cutdowns, after veteran guard Cordell Volson sustained a season-ending shoulder injury. Volson, the projected backup right guard, was placed on injured reserve after clearing waivers.
