The Arizona Cardinals ended their five-game losing streak in Week 9 with a resounding 27-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. In the wake of this win, the Cardinals have committed to Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback moving forward, placing Kyler Murray on injured reserve with a foot injury.
With the team having some clarity moving forward on offense, things are heading in the right direction after this win. And yet, not everything from this game was positive, as tight end Josiah Deguara ended up getting punished by the league for his actions in the team’s most recent win over the Cowboys on Saturday night.
Josiah Deguara Picks Up Fine from the NFL
The 2025 campaign has been a unique one for the Cardinals. After winning their first two games of the season, it seemed like things were trending in the right direction for the team. Five straight losses and an injury to Murray changed things pretty quickly, and while beating the Cowboys is nice, the team’s playoff prospects aren’t exactly looking great right now.
Committing to Brissett under center makes sense for the time being. Murray isn’t fully recovered from his foot injury, and Brissett has looked much better during his time on the field than the former No. 1 overall pick. Arizona suddenly has some big questions to answer about Murray’s future with the team, but that’s an issue for another day.
For now, the team is focused on winning as many football games as possible, and they did well to get back in the win column in Week 9. Winning is great, but for Deguara, not everything from this game was positive. That’s because the veteran tight end racked up a $6,500 fine from the league for a low block he committed in this game.
“Arizona Cardinals TE Josiah Deguara was fined $6,500 for this low block last week,” Donnie Druin of Sports Illustrated shared in a post on X.

As the clip above shows, Deguara’s low block ultimately ended up being fairly harmless, but the NFL is intent on doing everything in its power to protect its players. That is why he ended up getting fined here, as the league wants to eliminate these sorts of blocks in an effort to keep its players on the field.
Moving onto Week 10, the Cardinals will draw a tough matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, who are fresh off a blowout victory over the Washington Commanders. The Seahawks appear to be finding their form at the perfect time, and it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that they are heavily favored to win this game. Arizona may be figuring things out, too, though, and all eyes will be on this important NFC West clash when it kicks off at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
