NFL Announces Punishment for Eagles Player After Raiders Loss

The Philadelphia Eagles had little to worry about in their 31-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. However, despite the victory, one player on the Eagles received bad news regarding an incident that occurred during the game, following the NFL’s Gameday Accountability report released on December 20.

Eagles’ Marcus Epps was the only player in this game to receive a fine for his actions. As part of the process, players are informed when a violation occurs and have the right to appeal.

Furthermore, appeals are reviewed by officers and former NFL players Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly selected and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA. As a result, their rulings are final and cannot be contested.

Regarding Epps, he was fined for unnecessary roughness on a play in the second quarter at the 1:57-minute mark after using his helmet. Due to this incident, the league is fining him $6,500.

Uncertainty Surrounds Raiders After Loss to Eagles

With the team sitting at 2-12 after the loss to the Eagles, speculation about head coach Pete Carroll’s future is growing, and he could potentially be a one-and-done figure with the Silver and Black.

But Carroll isn’t the only target of scrutiny. Minority owner Tom Brady is also facing criticism, as NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio delivered a pointed assessment of his role in the team’s struggles.

“You can’t be doing a thousand things and be fully focused on a football team that you are involved in trying to help,” Florio said on the December 17 edition of “Pro Football Talk Live.” “Here’s the bottom line. He can try all he wants to distance himself from it, but he owns a piece of that team. This is on him. This failure is on him. He can either cash out or go all in.

“Maybe they will luck into a turnaround, and then we will hear all the stuff Tom Brady did to help turn it around. But this is the first full year that he has been on board, and it is a disaster. They are the worst team in the NFL, and it is unfair to the other people who are held accountable to not hold Tom Brady accountable for what the Raiders have become.”

How Much Blame Does Tom Brady Deserve?

Chris Simms, NBC Sports NFL analyst and co-host with Florio on “Pro Football Talk Live, stopped short of blaming Brady. Still, he thinks the former New England Patriots quarterback should play a bigger role within the organization.

“I don’t know enough about the inner work, Simms added. “The fact that he’s doing all these other things tells me that they didn’t expect him to be a part of the day-to-day stuff. That’s where I’m not sure. I know he’s going to put some input and all of that, but I’m not sure how much was really expected.

“It’s a fine line to dance. You’re announcing a game. I didn’t see it, but what are you going to do, call the head coach and the GM and say, hey, I didn’t watch the game, but this has got to be different. It’s a hard job to dip your toe in and be successful…

“They got work to do. If he’s going to be involved, it is going to have to take him being there, seeing the meat and potatoes, day-to-day aspects of how things are going down. If he’s going to get involved in this quarterback search and a coaching search, that has to start right now and you got to start digging in and doing your homework and talking to people.”
