NFL Announces Travis Kelce Punishment Decision After Chiefs Elimination

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs fell out of playoff contention for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era with a loss on Sunday, December 14, to the Los Angeles Chargers at home at Arrowhead Stadium with a 16-13 final tally. But, after that game, even with the postseason out of the picture, there was more football to play.

After that loss, the Chiefs took on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, December 21, and fell hard with a 26-9 final score. Following that game, Kelce made a decision that broke the NFL’s rules, and now, the league has made their final call on if they’re going to punish him for those post-game actions.

Every Saturday week during the season, the NFL hands down punishments to players for actions taken during the previous week’s games. The NFL states on their official website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.” Also, ahead of each season’s start, the NFL and NFL Players Association agree on the set of game-related rules violations that result in these accountability measures.

So, on Saturday, December 27, the NFL announced their final punishment decision for Kelce.

NFL Issues Decision for Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce wasn’t happy about the Kansas City Chiefs’ lopsided loss to the Titans, and he made that known by not talking to the press after the game. He’s actually made a habit of skipping media after losses, although he did talk after the Chiefs fell to the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day.

It’s against NFL policy for players to skip talking to reporters after games, so Kelce has been breaking the rules. But, once again, on Saturday, December 27, the NFL announced their roster of players being punished for their Week 16 actions, and Kelce wasn’t on the tally. So, he won’t have to answer to the NFL on his decision.

The funds raised from those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”

Travis Kelce Promises to Play His Heart Out for the Remaining Kansas City Chiefs Season

As for the rest of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs, their final game will be on Sunday, January 4, against the Las Vegas Raiders on the road.

After being eliminated from the playoffs, Kelce said the team was still going to play its hardest as the season closed out. But, the Chiefs have dropped every game since their postseason elimination. At least that helps their draft slot for the 2026 NFL draft.

“Chiefs Kingdom, we’re going give you everything we got. There’s no question about that,” Kelce stated on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason, on Wednesday, December 17, regarding the rest of the 2025-26. “If we’re going to go out there and play some football, we’re going to do it the right way and keep trying to get these things fixed and end on the highest note that we can.”
