Panic may be the wrong word just yet, but there’s definite concern in Philadelphia after the Super Bowl champion Eagles dropped two games in a row.
Losing consecutive games is something that hasn’t happened tot he squad since 2023, and the back-to-back defeats have some insiders confirming what many have been speculating about for weeks: GM Howie Roseman is very likely going to be active in the trademark before the deadline hits on November 4.
“Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has never met a trade he wouldn’t consider, and don’t be surprised if he looks for some help on defense,” NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo wrote on October 11. “A cornerback or edge would make sense.”
A Current Look at Philly’s Depth on the D-Line & in the Secondary
As of Week 6, Philly’s depth at edge is thin. Za’Darius Smith, Azeez Ojulari, Jalyx Hunt, Josh Uche and Patrick Johnson round out the current rotation. Two key rushers are out: 2023 first-rounder Nolan Smith hit injured reserve on September 24 with a triceps issue, while veteran Ogbo Okoronkwo followed him to IR on September 30, also with a triceps injury.
Corner is better stocked, but still volatile. Quinyon Mitchell was lights out over the first six weeks, but he suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s latest loss to the Giants, and hammy issues can nag.
Kelee Ringo has been starting over Adoree’ Jackson on the left side, and Cooper DeJean has been playing in the slot. Trade acquisition Jakorian Bennett, who pushed for snaps over the summer, is also on IR.
Will Howie Roseman & the Philadelphia Eagles Trade for a DE or CB Soon?

GettyThe Philadelphia Eagles’ best trade option at DE could be Trey Hendrickson, but the 49ers may nab him first.
So who could be available? On the edge, Trey Hendrickson’s is a name that keeps popping up as a possibility, although the 49ers are rumored to be honing in on him. The Saints are also being discussed as potential sellers, which makes both Carl Granderson and franchise icon Cameron Jordan potential DE options, as well.
If the Jets decide to become sellers, a younger, cost-controlled option in Will McDonald IV could be attractive to teams. None of those names are locks, of course, but all remain possibilities.
At corner, one name to monitor is Saints CB Alontae Taylor. Philadelphia’s scheme is a good fit, and he’d be a solid plug-and-play option if Roseman and company like him.
This past week, the Browns and Jaguars swapped Tyson Campbell and Greg Newsome II in a rare CB-for-CB deal. We wrote about Newsome being a good fit before, and his recent trade thinned the talent pool out a bit for the Eagles. Roseman already traded for running back Tank Bigsby, so expect him to continue to look for ways to help his team.
It’s also possible Roseman will add both a CB and a DE via trade in the coming weeks.
Eagles DC Vic Fangio: ‘I’m Sure Howie Will Get Something Done’
“Obviously, the production or the sack numbers are what [they are],” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on October 7. “I do think the ball is coming out fairly quick a lot. I think the sack numbers, when you eliminate the big games that some teams have, are down overall in the last few years. The guys have been rushing good enough. We just haven’t gotten there.”
The Eagles DC also dropped this nugget the week prior:
“The numbers (at DE) are dwindling and if we need more, I’m sure Howie will get something done.”
We’re sure he will, too. The only question is who he’ll be adding.
