The Moss on Moss slander has to stop!
NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss took a blind side shot at Denver Broncos cornerback Riley Moss ahead of Denver’s Week 15 game against the Green Bay Packers, predicting a rough day for Moss in what could very well be a Super Bowl preview.
“The Packers have a 3-headed monster at wide receiver with Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed,” Randy Moss said on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown on December 14. “They’re gonna pick on Riley Moss today. Give me the Packers.”
Riley Moss, in his second year as a full time starter, has been one of the keys to Denver’s current 10-game winning streak and 11-2 overall record. The Packers are 9-3-1 and have won 4 consecutive games.
Packers Offense Starting to Come Together
The Packers might have the scariest offense in the NFL were it not for a torn ACL suffered by tight end Tucker Kraft in Week 8. Kraft is still second on the Packers in receiving yards and touchdowns and was on track for an NFL All-Pro season before his injury.
Without Kraft, the Packers are still pretty dangerous. Doubs leads the team with 45 receptions for 542 yards and 5 touchdowns in 13 games but the real threat is probably Watson, who has 25 receptions for 452 yards and 5 touchdowns in just 7 games after missing time rehabbing from a 2024 knee injury.
While Reed is just coming back into the lineup after missing 10 games with a broken collarbone, he looked sharp with 4 receptions for 31 yards on 4 targets in a Week 14 win over the Chicago Bears.
Moss One of NFL’s Most Talked About Cornerbacks
If Randy Moss didn’t know before now, Riley Moss is used to getting picked on.
Not only has Moss played opposite the NFL’s singularly dominant cornerback the last 2 seasons in reigning NFL All-Pro and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II, it was Moss who helped the Broncos weather the storm when Surtain missed 3 games due to a pec injury.
Even with all that pressure â and essentially every quarterback he faces trying to expose him â Moss has been dominant at times.
Moss has 61 tackles and 12 pass deflections through 13 games this season. That puts him Top 5 in the NFL in both categories.
âBroncos CB Riley Moss has yet to allow a touchdown across a league-high 43 man coverage targets this season, per Next Gen Stats,â Mile High Huddleâs Zack Kelberman wrote on his official X account on November 26. âNo other defender in the NFL has faced as many such targets without surrendering a TD.â
Former Broncos NFL All-Pro safety, 3-time Pro Bowler and Broncos Super Bowl champion safety T.J. Ward pointed out teams were targeting Moss earlier this season when comparing this year’s defense to the 2015 Broncos defense, which went on to win a Super Bowl.
âThe thing with us was, we figured out there werenât no holes (in our defense),â Ward said on the DNVR Broncos podcast on October 7. âYou couldnât pick out one person and say âWe gonna go at himâ ⦠you couldnât target anyone. Teams are targeting (Moss). He has to do better situationally.â
