This has turned into quite the week to forget for Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt.
A day after arriving home from an unexpected hospital visit, Watt received an $11,593 fine because of a play from the Week 14 matchup versus the Baltimore Ravens. The fine was for a late hit Watt delivered with a little more than two minutes left in the first half.
The league announced the fine on the Gameday Accountability page on the NFL website.
Steelers Depot posted video of the play on its website’s official X account. During the play, Watt appeared to jump on a pile of moving players. The play was about a 3-yard gain for Ravens running back Derrick Henry.
Steelers Depot’s Joe Clark disagreed with the decision to fine Watt for the hit.
“It’s a really ticky-tack definition of a late hit, as Watt jumped on a pile of players trying to bring down Derrick Henry while the Ravens RB was still up,” Clark wrote. “It really doesn’t look like a play that rose to a level of a fine.”
This is the first fine Watt has received this season. Despite the hard hitting from the Steelers-Ravens rivalry matchup in Baltimore, the edge rusher’s fine was the only one from Sunday’s game.
