NFL Reveals Exciting Matthew Stafford Update Amid MVP Campaign

The Los Angeles Rams went 4-1 in the month of November and were so close to bringing the No. 1 NFC seed into the month of December.

Unfortunately, the Carolina Panthers upset the Rams, 31-28, in Week 13, and the Chicago Bears snatched the top seed for the time being.

In the first half of the game on Sunday, quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown pass to Davante Adams. That marked Stafford’s 28th consecutive touchdown without an interception, passing the record previously owned by Tom Brady.

Right after that, Stafford threw two interceptions and finished the game with 243 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss.

Still, it was an outstanding month for the Rams signal-caller, and on Thursday, he earned an honor for the first time in his NFL career: The NFC Offensive Player of the Month Award.

Matthew Stafford Earns Impressive NFL Honor

The NFL announced the Player of the Month winners for November.

Stafford won the NFC Offensive Player of the Month Award, with Seattle Seahawks kicker Jason Myers winning the Special Teams honor and Bears defensive back Nahshon Wright winning the Defensive Player of the Month honor.

Stafford had a huge month of November. The Rams went 4-1, and the former Georgia Bulldogs star threw for 1,207 yards with 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions, both of which came against the Panthers.

Stafford is currently first in the league with 32 passing touchdowns and fourth in passing yards with 3,073 going into Week 14.

Rams linebacker Byron Young won the Defensive Player of the Month Award in September, but this marks the first time in his long career that Stafford has won such an award.

Stafford Continues to Boost NFL MVP Campaign

So far, Stafford is in line to be a finalist for the NFL MVP award, and rightfully so.

Entering Week 14, the latest odds have New England Patriots QB Drake Maye as the favorite, with Stafford at No. 2 and Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott at No. 3.

While some doubted Stafford’s MVP campaign, Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports pumped the brakes and said not to overreact to the rough outing.

“Naturally, this puts a dent into Stafford’s MVP bid and could cost him his standing as the betting favorite. However, it’d be a step too far to say that his pursuit is over. Los Angeles is still 9-3 on the season and very much still in play for the top seed in the NFC. If Stafford bounces back with strong performances over the next few weeks against opponents like the Lions (Week 15) and Seahawks (Week 16), his stock could be back up,” Sullivan wrote.

Chad Graff and Nate Atkins of The Athletic also mentioned why Stafford’s case could be hard to argue against by the end of the year.

“If Stafford can finish with the league lead in touchdown passes with these strong efficiency numbers, and the Rams win the NFC West, he’ll have a case that’s hard to top.”

Regardless, Stafford is right in the running for the award with the final month of the season beginning, and winning the NFC West could be the difference-maker.
