The Buffalo Bills are one of the few teams that can confidently say they can win every game because of who’s under center. The Bills have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Josh Allen, and about 25 fan bases wish they had him.
A few teams have great quarterbacks that are close to Allen’s level. One player who’s been knocking over the last few years is Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
Los Angeles picked Herbert No. 7 out of Oregon in the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Ducks star was the third quarterback taken.
Cincinnati took LSU’s Joe Burrow No. 1, and four picks later, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa was drafted by Miami.
In Herbert’s five NFL seasons, he has worked with three head coaches: Anthony Lynn, Brandon Staley, and Jim Harbaugh. Lynn and Staley coached Herbert through his first four seasons, and then, finally, last year, Harbaugh arrived to save him.
The 27-year-old quarterback has been viewed as one of the best at his position over the last five years, even though he hasn’t won a playoff game.
Herbert has gone to the playoffs twice, losing both times in the Wild Card game. Quarterbacks are praised for how they handle the postseason, and Herbert has been on the wrong side of it.
Josh Allen And Justin Herbert Have Some Things In Common
One advantage Herbert has over many quarterbacks his his height and weight. He stands around 6 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 236 pounds. Herbert’s frame should sound familiar since Josh Allen is 6-foot-5, 238.
Both quarterbacks can use their big bodies to fight off defenders and pick up extra yards with their legs. The Bills have been one of the most effective rushing teams in football over the last five years thanks to Allen’s ability to pick up tough yards.
Herbert needs to take a style from Allen’s playbook. The soon-to-be sixth-year quarterback admitted on Thursday that he’s ready to learn from the Bills’ quarterback.
Herbert Wants To Model His Game After Allen’s
Herbert was on the Dan Patrick Show, and according to Ryan DePaul, who covers the Chargers, Herbert had high praise for Allen.
“What I respect about him, Josh Allen, is he’s able to run power between the tackles,” Herbert said. “He’s able to take the hits and deliver the hits.” Herbert then went on to say he wants to do more of that in the offense this season.”
Justin Herbert this morning on the Dan Patrick Show:

Allen is one of the best quarterbacks to learn from on how to take and deliver hits. The 29-year-old quarterback has been taking hits for the last seven seasons in Buffalo.
Bills fans probably aren’t happy that Herbert wants to steal Allen’s style, but when you’re the best, everyone wants to copy what works.
Herbert still has a long way to go before he’s on Allen’s level, but another year in Harbaugh’s system could help him get there sooner.
