NFLPA Makes Announcement on Key Raiders Starter

The Raiders are still relatively new to Las Vegas and continue to seek ways to give back to the community. There are many new players, coaches and front office members who joined the franchise this offseason, but some have been quick to make their mark.

Safety Jeremy Chinn is quickly becoming a key player on and off the field for the Raiders. Recently, he hosted a season kickoff celebration for 90 homeless teenagers in Nevada. The event featured dinner, free haircuts, essential items and a meet-and-greet with Chinn.

For his work, the NFLPA announced that Chinn has been named their Week 3 Community MVP, which is given to players who exhibit excellence off the field.

“Being recognized as a staple in the community is a major honor,” Chinn said. “My charitable motivations come from wanting to uplift, support and inspire young people facing unfortunate circumstances.”

The Raiders are Chinn’s third team as a pro, but it has always been important for him to help his community.

“It’s an honor to be a part of something that brings joy and support to these incredible young people,” Chinn said. “Everyone deserves to feel seen, valued and supported — and events like this remind us of the power of community and compassion.”

Chinn Impressing on the Field, as Well

Chinn is proving to be very valuable to the Las Vegas community, but he’s also making an impact on the field through two games. The Raiders are asking him to do a lot as a safety and a slot cornerback, but he’s been up to the challenge.

Head coach Pete Carroll recently spoke about how much Chinn is bringing to the defense.

“I love what [Jeremy] Chinn’s doing. He gives us all kinds of flexibility. We do a lot of stuff with him. He’s got a lot of game. He can really run, and that’s to go along with being physical and all the rest,” Carroll told reporters Wednesday.

“So, he made a big play right on the first drive of the game that got us off the field for a field goal. It was good stuff.”

Chinn Faces Former Team in Week 3

Chinn played with the Washington Commanders last season, where he started 17 games and had 117 tackles. The team let him walk in free agency, but Chinn isn’t going to have to wait long for revenge.

The Raiders travel to Washington to face the Commanders in Week 3. Chinn didn’t spend long with the team, so it’s hard to imagine he’s too hyped about it, but he should have a little extra juice.

That said, Carroll gets a little worried about his players facing their former teams.

“I’m concerned about guys going back on situations like this, that they get overhyped,” Carroll said of Chinn returning to Washington. “It means more to them, and which it does, but he has to handle that really well. I’m sure he will.”

Chinn has proven to be a professional for the Raiders, so it’s unlikely he’ll let the moment get to him, but he will be a player to watch in Week 3.
