Nottingham Forest have sacked Ange Postecoglou just minutes after their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Postecoglou was brought into replace Nuno Espirito Santo in August but departs without registering a single win after just 39 days at the helm.

Just 18 minutes after the final whistle at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon, Forest brutally confirmed the Australian’s exit after just eight games in charge.

‘A statement from the club read: Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.’

Former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche is thought to be the front runner to replace Postecoglou.

Postecoglou came into Saturday’s match in desperate need of a win but two goals in three second-half minutes for Chelsea set Forest on course for their fifth defeat of the season.

Forest picked up just one point from the Australian’s five Premier League matches in charge, leaving the side one point above the relegation zone in 17th.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who hand-picked Postecoglou for the job just over a month ago, watched on grimly before leaving the director’s box altogether midway through the second-half.

His 39-day spell in charge is the second shortest managerial reign in Premier League history, second only to Sam Allardyce who lasted 30 days at Leeds United.
