For the past couple of weeks, entering NFL Week 10, it’s felt like head coach Brian Daboll has been a “dead man walking” — in the sense that he could be fired by the New York Giants at any moment.
NYC radio co-host Shaun Morash, of WFAN’s afternoon show “Evan & Tiki,” fueled those rumors with rare sourced reporting live on Thursday’s broadcast.
“So, I’ve done some poking around. I’ve done some digging around. And I’ve now gotten this from multiple people I trust, which is why I’m going to come here [on the show] with it,” Morash began on November 6.
“The Giants were firing Brian Daboll off the plane after the collapse in Denver,” he revealed. Adding: “He was fired.”
After a pause, Morash explained why Daboll was not actually fired after the embarrassing Week 7 loss to the Denver Broncos.
“Ownership got together, cooler heads prevailed, and they decided NOT to fire Brian Daboll off the plane in Denver,” the radio host continued. “But in the immediacy of that collapse, the decision to throw on third-and-five that Tiki [Barber] had crushed after that game, enough apparently was enough from people of importance with the Giants that he was [going to be] fired off the plane in Denver. And cooler heads have prevailed, which has now led to stories about the split ticket.”
Will the Giants Do the Unthinkable & Retain General Manager Joe Schoen Despite Potentially Firing Brian Daboll?

If it feels like Groundhog Day for any Giants fans reading this article, you’re not alone.
At the end of the 2024 season, there were several discussions about whether or not John Mara and Giants ownership would choose to fire both Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. The alternative was to part ways with one of the two and keep the other, or to retain both — which ultimately became the outcome.
Here we are again in Week 10, as Giants fans and reporters speculate whether both Daboll and Schoen will be fired, or just the beleaguered head coach.
“Brian Daboll is as good as gone and was basically gone two weeks ago,” Morash voiced on November 6, based on what his sources told him. The only reason he was not fired on the spot, according to Morash’s sources, is that a member of the NYG ownership team stepped up and advised against it.
Morash would not reveal who specifically wanted to fire Daboll after Week 7, but confirmed that it was not Schoen. At the same time, he hinted that Schoen could be spared once again, which is what he meant by the “split ticket” theory.
Barber, a Giants legend, was not in the studio on November 6 to digest Morash’s claim, but co-host Evan Roberts did give his opinion. Based on what he heard, Roberts “surmised” that it was Mara who wanted to fire Daboll.
If that’s true, it’s possible he was talked out of it by Giants co-owner Steve Tisch and company.
Giants Final Injury News Rules Out 6 Players for Week 10 vs. the Bears
Things haven’t gotten any better for Daboll after the Denver debacle, so it’s a miracle he’s still the head coach if Morash’s reporting is accurate.
The Giants have now lost three straight following their blowout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, and roster health — or lack thereof — has been a factor.
Mounting injuries have strained Daboll’s resources as he prepares for games, and the general enthusiasm surrounding Jaxson Dart and the new-look Giants has waned. Running back Cam Skattebo’s season-ending injury didn’t help with these disappointing trends.
Now, heading into a Week 10 matchup with the Chicago Bears, Big Blue has officially ruled out six players, with the possibility that more will be ruled out later this weekend.
Per team reporter Dan Salomone and the Giants on Friday, November 7, kicker Graham Gano (neck), cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee), center John Michael Schmitz (shin), linebacker Darius Muasau (ankle), defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck), and wide receiver Beaux Collins (neck) have all been ruled out.
Outside linebacker and core special teamer Victor Dimukeje (shoulder) is also “doubtful” for Week 10, and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (pec) and safety Jevon Holland (knee) were both listed as “questionable.”
If Daboll wants to save his job, he won’t have much help from this bruised and battered NYG roster against the Bears.
